Now, why can’t the puns be dirty jokes? Probably go with dirty jokes, since I tend to throw those back and forth with my friend more frequently than puns, but I do appreciate a good (or a bad) pun :)
13. moon or stars?
Stars, although it’s tough because I love the moon. I adore looking at constellations though, and the stories that go along with them, and the fact that I won’t ever see a star in its current state because of how light travels and how just looking at the stars is looking through time because they are so far away, even if I’m not looking at them through a telescope.
14. sunrise or sunset?
Sunset because I’m definitely almost always asleep when the sunrises haha. But at sunset the sky turns pretty orange golds and darker purples and the stars start to come out.
22. what do you think of when you wake up?
That I want to go back to sleep, usually. Although since I’ve gotten my cat, I usually open my eyes and not move, and wonder if she’s sitting at the end of the bed staring at me and waiting for me to wake up. She always is and then she cuddles with me and I think of how I have the sweetest cat. :3c
Currently writing a Voltron Thanksgiving fic, since my family members all have messed up schedules and we can't actually have our own celebration until later this weekend. Writing the fic keeps me in the spirit of thankfulness in the meantime, so it should be up pretty soon. It's gonna be titled "Not Quite Home" and it'll be long-ish, but hopefully worth the time.
Hey this is the Fic anon! I wrote a prologue and I don't have any people who could really proof read, so I just posted this. I don't like it that much, so if you have any tips, please let me know! I can't post a link, but it's called Fullmetal Alchemist: GreED. Thanks!
I’ve been trying to find it, but with no luck. Maybe you could @ me in the tumblr version of the post, or tag my url? Or maybe use a sideblog to preserve your anonymity or something, and @ me in a post that has a link to the prologue on whatever site(s) you’ve posted to? I’ve been trying really hard to find it, and I really want to read it, so it’d be great if you could figure out a way to help me get to it.
AUGH I'M SORRY I, the fic anon, was asking what you would think of a fic, if I were to write it. I'm so sorry, I was rushed and autocorrect screwed somethings up. Sorry! (¡_¡)
I’m the one who’s sorry for almost stealing your idea like that! I’m glad I asked for clarification before I wrote anything.
You can take the things I said I’d include in my version if you like, of course. To be honest, when I read the idea, I thought it was the kind of fic I’d prefer to read rather than write. It sounds like a really compelling way to turn things around, and create some deeper character development for both Ed and Greed. I wanted it to be a fic that already existed, so I could read it and get a whole new perspective on the FMA universe.
In other words, I think your FMA fic idea is awesome and I really want to read it once it’s finished! Sorry again for the mix-up! I’m not used to getting anons, so I end up forgetting that the same person can be on anon multiple times. I automatically separate them out into different people in my mind, when I should really think about the content of the ask before I assume it’s a different person. If that makes sense.
I’m rooting for you, Fic Anon! Take your idea and run with it, cause it’s gonna be an awesome story. ^_^
Okay so I have The Inspiration to write fanfics and want to be Big in The Community. How do I start should I do a03 or something idk help please you are a great writer so I thought you might know thanks bye
Thank you so much! For liking my writing, and for believing in me enough to ask for my help. I don’t have as much fame as many other writers, unfortunately, but I do know what’s gotten me the most feedback when I post fanfiction.
My first piece of advice is to go over your fic at least once before posting it anywhere. Some people get their friends or mutuals to do a Beta Reading for them to catch little mistakes, others will edit by themselves. Either way works. You’ll still get positive feeback if you have typos and mistakes, of course, but they’ll make you cringe when you finally notice them in a posted work and there’s always the risk that someone will fixate on a tiny mistake when they go to comment on your work. For every ten wonderful fans your work might get, there’s one person trying to steal the spotlight by being mean.
My second piece of advice is to ignore that one person – or, at the very least, do your best to rationalize what they say. Pick out the pieces of criticism that actually make sense, and toss out the rest. If they say “your writing is terrible” ask yourself “well, what does that mean? what’s terrible about it specifically?” and if the comment doesn’t explain, then remind yourself that their lack of specifics is proof they’re grasping at straws to try and get under your skin. If they say “your pacing is really weird and I got kind of lost when I was reading” respond back to them and try to figure out how you can write stories that have a more comfortable pacing in the future.
My third, and probably most important, piece of advice is to post on multiple sites. Use the same username on all sites, or at least have links to your other profiles so people can’t steal your work as easily. Then post, everywhere you possibly can. Because the people who follow you on Tumblr might not be as likely to read whole fics as the people looking up your genre of fic on AO3. The people on AO3 might be looking for different genres/tags than the people on Fanfic.net. The readers on Figment might be more specific about the fics they like than the people on DeviantArt. The readers on Wattpad might be less likely to comment on a fic than readers on a public writing forum. So on and so forth. By posting in all of your favorite places – places where you like to read fics, or places where you think your friends/mutuals might spread the word about your fic, or places where it just looks like people comment frequently on fanfic.
Fic sites aren’t like publishing houses or prize-based writing competitions. Publishing houses, magazines, and other writing companies want to make as much money as possible, so they make sure the work you give them is just for them. If it’s published anywhere else, you won’t get accepted because you won’t be guaranteed to make the company money. But fic sites. Fic sites are all about the freedom of creativity. Fic sites are about bringing people together, and sharing stories freely among fans. Fic sites are meant to spread your work out to as many people as possible. So write, read, protect your work, and then send it off to as many corners of the internet as you can reach. Someone who only has a DeviantArt account will be delighted that the fic their friend read on AO3 is available for them to read, too. Someone who only reads online works on Figment will find your work when they never would’ve otherwise had a chance.
Write bravely. Re-read carefully. Protect thoroughly. Post. Everywhere.
I hope that helps, my fic writing friend. I believe in you, and can’t wait to read what you’ve been so Inspired to write. ^_^
I recently finished a really cute anime about the ups and downs of being a new parent, and now I’m thinking up way too many Parenting AU ideas. Most of them probably aren’t anything new, but I can’t stop thinking about them unless I write them down. So, here are some Parenting AU ideas boasting varying degrees of originality and inspiration. Feel free to do with them as you will.
- The Babysitter’s Club: Person A once made the terrible mistake of babysitting their neighbor’s kid and it was HELL and they’re an AWFUL babysitter and they never want to do it again -- but now the neighbor is going out of town and they won’t stop asking Person A to watch the kid all weekend which leads to Person B seeing an ad/post/etc that says Person A is willing to fork over all the babysitting money they otherwise would’ve been paid; they don’t even care they just need HELP and Person B either needs money and thinks this could be an interesting way to get it, and/or has been crushing on Person A for weeks/months/years and thinks this could be the perfect opportunity to actual spend some alone time with their crush
- The Usagi Drop: Person A recently attended their aunt’s/uncle’s funeral and met this kid they’d never seen and turns out the only living blood relative the kid has left is their cousin -- aka Person A -- and before they know it they’re back home with a little kid and that kid is friends with Person B’s kid, and Person B is helping out with Kid A cause they know how hard it is to raise a kid on your own, and oh no they’re kind AND hot AND smart and Person A is alarmed to find that being with Person B and Kid A and Kid B feels like having a family and slowly the four start to realize that’s what they’ve been all along
- The Involuntary Volunteer: Person A frantically explains to Person B that they wanted to do something nice for their community so they signed up to volunteer at a foster care facility and they were surprised that the place ran so many tests and background checks on people would just be, like, reading to the kids and doing puppet shows sometimes but then this thing came in the mail congratulating them on being approved to be matched with a foster kid of their very own and they aren’t ready to even temporarily look after a kid and they’re gonna do a shitty job they know it but also they’re pretty sure CPS will have them arrested if they back out now??? So can Person B maybe be convinced/bribed into helping Person A by being a co-parent for awhile??? At least until the kid gets adopted??? Except time goes by way faster than they expected and Person B is a way more appealing person than they thought and the kid is awesome and they feel like family and how can they possibly give that up now, after everything they’ve gone through?
- The Uterus Owner Special: Person A is pregnant and their partner left them as soon as they found out and they’re scared to be a parent and it just so happens that Person B is incapable of having kids (lgbt, nb, infertile, other complications, etc.) and actually does want to be a parent and they spend a long time trying to convince Person A to let them have the kid and an even longer time working with Person A to get all the paperwork and prep stuff in order before the baby comes and oh -- oh, no, Person A is a really good person and would actually make a great parent and Person B doesn’t want to be selfish and take away someone’s baby and the due date is just around the corner and Person B has to decide whether they love Person A more than they want to be a parent and meanwhile Person A is falling in love with Person B as well and is super distressed cause once the baby’s born they’ll have little to no reason to see Person B anymore, but when the day finally comes the two (or more) people realize that the obvious solution is just to raise the kid together
- The Unfortunate Cliche: Person A is calling Person B because it seems that they’ve lost all memory of who they were or what life they led or that they apparently had/adopted/are raising a kid??? Said kid told them to call the school, cause apparently Person A and the kid’s 2nd grade teacher were friends at some point??? So apparently, they can tell Person A whether or not this is all some bizarre, elaborate prank and Person B answers that yes they’re Person A’s Kid’s 2nd grade teacher and yes there are in fact records of Person A being this kid’s parent/relative/guardian, and um... they weren’t just friends (that’s a lie)... they were lovers, actually (no they weren’t) yep 100% dating (love makes Person B say crazy things) in fact... y’know, it’s really disappointing Person A lost their memories (it’s actually the best thing that ever happened to Person B) because the two of them were talking recently about whether them getting married would be too stressful for the kid (they never did any such thing) and Person A believes all of it and is freaking out and Person B’s attempts to make their lie into truth leads to a variety of cliche Fake Dating shenanigans
- The Shipping Child: Person A is a strong, independent person who has no need for a co-parent cause they can raise a kid just fine on their own thank you very much so even if Person B is their kid’s favorite adult person in the world for some inexplicable reason, they can kindly step off cause this kid already has a perfectly capable parent, thank you very much... although it is really nice when the kid asks to hang out with Person B and Person A gets a second to themself for a change... and it’s even nicer when the kid drags Person A to the park bench where Person B is sitting and then runs off to play and leaves Person A and Person B to talk (at least until they spot the adults laughing and smiling and pat themself on the back for a job well done)... and it’s kind of the best when Person B visits and the kid demands they stay the night and Person B smiles so kindly and warmly at Person A and politely offers to take the couch and shit Person A was supposed to be an independent person not a swooning schoolkid this is ridiculous -- and the kid is so proud when they wake up the next morning and there’s nobody on the couch but Person B’s car is still in the driveway
- The Unprepared: Person A and Person B willingly had a kid (traditionally, scientifically, magically, legally, however you please), and thought they’d be super happy once said kid was in their lives but now it’s painfully obvious that they have no clue what they’re doing and they’re so scared they’re gonna unintentionally kill this poor child and they don’t know what to do until Person C swoops in, either by interrupting them as they fail to keep their kid quiet in a public place or by being a childhood friend to Person A/B and just showing up at the house one day to help out, and they do everything perfectly and the kid adores them and they’re so smart and helpful and Person A hears the loving way Person B says Person C’s name but they can’t fault Person B cause they’re painfully aware of the goofy smile they get anytime Person C is around and how fast does Person B think they’d get shot down if they asked Person C to join them in a polyamorous relationship? Instantly, or on a slight delay? And if they are shot down, can they still be co-parents anyway -- cause Person C is seriously good at this whole childcare thing and maybe they shouldn’t bring up their shared crush if they want to keep this platonic co-parent deal going but it’s really hard when they both love Person C SO MUCH
- The It Followed Me Home: Person A and Person B are living together when Person A comes home with a child at their heels and a shrug on their shoulders and Person B tries to find the kid’s real parents but the kid insists on staying with them (maybe the kid ran away from an abusive home, maybe their parents are gone altogether, maybe they just really like Person A, whatever fits your character(s) best) and at first it’s really hard for the adults to adjust to having a kid in their house -- what if the kid walks in on the two of them at just the wrong moment how embarrassing would that be for everyone involved -- but as they work to find where this kid belongs Person B and Person A find themselves remembering things about their relationship that they had started to forget, and falling in love with each other all over again and the kid loves them and after awhile they just kind of give up and realize that they’re not just a couple anymore they’re parents too and y’know what they’re surprisingly okay with this turn of events
- The Child of Convenience: Person A never wanted to be a parent, but Person B unknowingly adopted a Chosen One (has important knowledge, has magic powers, is a prodigy at x skill, belongs to a bloodline that owes Person A a life debt, has a special destiny, is the key to an ultimate weapon or alternate universe, etc and so on) and now Person A is here to try and convince Person B to hand over the kid so their needs can be met (needs magic to save them from a terminal illness, needs special blood to break a curse, needs to see the future to get out of a sticky situation, needs to collect on a life debt, needs to PAY a life debt, etc and so on) and if they would just LISTEN they’d see it really won’t take that long and the kid won’t be hurt... much... and it’s really okay if they would just hand over the kid for one measly day -- okay y’know what if Person B is gonna be this stubborn then Person A is just gonna set up shop and LIVE with them until the kid does their Chosen One thing and saves/helps Person A but don’t expect them to help raise the insufferable child this is purely selfish they assure Person B of that... except Person A is late from work some days, and the kid gravitates to adults when they’re alone and dear god it shouldn’t be eating that and why is it laughing at Person A when they’re over here freaking out and why is it so endearing and why, when Person B came home and looked so relieved and actually said something kind to Person A for the first time ever, did Person A’s heart skip a beat? This wasn’t part of the plan at all
- The Why Me: Person A finally works up the nerve to confess to Person B and just as Person B is about to give their response a friend/relative/ally/coworker/teammate -- Person C -- calls in a panic and demands that they get home or come to a meeting place ASAP and they take Person A with them only to find that Person C is now a child due to some magic/supervillainy/technology/other shenanigans and the kid is crying and confused and wants to be picked up and Person A and Person B are horrified cause this was their adult friend/ally/coworker/teammate just hours ago and also cause they know nothing about childcare and nothing about how to reverse this condition and they scramble through the next few days trying desperately to keep this kid safe and cared for while also trying to find a cure for this bizarre condition and they find themselves both caught up in a whirlwind of panic and presented with the rare opportunity to learn more about who Person C is and what they were like as a kid and through all this they grow to trust Person C and each other more closely than ever and when everything is solved Person C thanks them and either leaves so Person A and Person B can pick up where they left off or comments that they saw how awkward Person A and Person B were and they join in where Person A and Person B left off before this whole fiasco happened
- The Good Intentions: Person A has had more than enough of sitting quietly and minding their own business while they hear the tears and cries of the kid who’s being abused by their parents/relatives/guardian(s) next door and calls CPS to get the kid away from these awful people but when the CPS officer they send tries to take the kid away to a foster care facility, Person A finds themself stopping the officer and demanding custody of the kid and the officer fights back for a bit until finally insisting that the best they can do is let the kid stay with Person A temporarily while a CPS official watches over them to see if this rando is actually suited to raise a child and the next morning Person B shows up with a briefcase full of test materials and starts testing Person A’s parental capacity and checks in with the pair once a week... and then twice a week... and then three times, claiming to be running tests that Person A later discovers are totally 100% made up and the kid seems happiest when both Person A and Person B are around and, well, who says these visits always have to be strictly professional anyway why don’t they just all three go out for ice cream together and Person A and Person B go to dinner after that and then they just... see where things go from there?
- The Last of Us: Person A fills the role of the apocalypse survivor who believes they’re all alone in the world and ends up finding no adult people to disprove their theory -- just a kid who has somehow survived by themselves up until now, and who latches onto Person A for dear life and who Person A is just trying to get to their parents and/or a safe place when they run into Person B and they’re an awkward terrible little family but none of the people they meet on their journey are any better; in fact, most of them are whole lot worse, actually, and if they have to be stuck with just two people for the rest of their (possibly short) post-apocalyptic lives then y’know what they want those two people to be adorable and endearing and badass and capable of saving their lives and Person B and the kid check pretty much all those boxes so Person A supposes that life after the end of the world isn’t so bad -- at least they still have a family, however small and weird it may be
- The Odd One Out: Person A and Person B have a kid (again, traditionally or scientifically or magically or by adoption or how ever you like) who’s... not quite like others, and they know that the kid is gonna be an outcast no matter what they do -- so they resolve to give the kid as much support at home as they possibly can, and in their struggle to convince the kid of things they don’t fully believe themselves (there’s no such thing as a worthless person, your dreams can come true if you work hard enough, other people’s opinions of you don’t matter, etc) they find themselves frequently failing and falling and tripping over themselves and having to rely on the other person to pick them back up again -- Person A becomes depressed believing they’re a terrible role model for the kid, Person B points out all the ways that’s not true; Person B becomes paranoid thinking everyone’s judging their family, Person A reminds them why it doesn’t matter whether they’re being judged or not; both worry they aren’t doing enough for their kid, the kid reminds them that they all love each other and that’s all they need, and the family gets closer and closer as the story goes on until it reaches whatever emotional climax/resolution seems most fitting
These AUs are really, really broad, so you can do with them whatever you like. Make already existing characters into Person A, Person B, and Child/Children. Add already existing characters in as Person C, or as antagonists, or as plot devices. Make your own OC children for Person A and Person B to look after. Pick only the things you like out of the suggested plot and scrap the rest. Stick to the suggested plot like glue and leave nothing out. Write/draw/make something that’s part suggested plot and part original ideas. Whatever you do, please tag what you make with @creatingpathstowander. Cause I love fluffy family/domestic stuff so much, that I don’t even care whether or not I know the characters or the referenced series/universe. I wanna see what, if anything, you guys can make with prompts like these. I know I wanna throw every character I’ve ever known and/or loved into these AUs as soon as possible, myself.
Writing fics and/or outlining fic ideas can reveal headcanons that you never knew you had. Similarly to hoe writing OC's can show you sides that you never knew your characters possessed. So, I think I'm gonna start a post series titled "So, Apparently" and each post will say in the header which fandom/original work it's for. Anyone and everyone, from fic writers to original writers to people who were inspired by their dreams about their fave characters, can make these posts, too. This way, writers can find each other and share headcanons by searching through the #soapparentlyhc tag.
