Our first dog together was this amazing American Bulldog named Trucker. He lived with us in a third floor apartment overlooking Main Street in Downtown Concord. I rarely left the apartment without him. If I did, I would look up and see him in the window and it would tug at my heart. This painting is no bigger than 10 inches high. It was a preliminary sketch for a larger version I want to paint. If the gods are with me I'll finally have a chance to paint it this year. When he was young, before he was known for always finding the most comfy place to sleep, he liked to run and jump. He could fly over downed trees like a super hero. Off to his right is what use to be our back door. At times he still thinks he can get in the house that way. 10 years of conditioning will do that. Slowly he is learning to go in another direction. Sometimes he simply freezes in one spot and waits. It might seem sad but the moment I show up at his side he wags his stubby tail and we move on. I see it more as he is trusting that one of his pack will show up soon enough. If he is still with us through the summer I imagine he'll have everything mapped out in his mind and he'll create a new habit as he spends more time outside. So appreciative of @sandyspetfoodcenter and @primalpetfoods. We found a food that our elderly pooch, Dozer, is eager to eat and it has him feeling vital and alive. Dozer walked several blocks with us this morning and he is still awake and alert. On a rainy day non the less.
