Oddette stood. Dagger clasped in her hands as the sound of steal on steal rang in her ears. The world twisted, the ground felt too close.
“I can’t be here” The words were soft -- breathy, they barley left her lips. The memory of watching her fathers men train, of fawning over them rushed to her mind. She’d never dared to think of what came after them falling over themselves to impress her -- of the bloodshed.
A man fell, his body lifeless.
An arrow grazed her cheek.
Blood dripped from the scratch. Her hands were numb. She wasn’t meant to be here. She wasn’t Merida -- confident, a survivor. She was a trophy with a title.
