🌙Top 5 Tips for New/Questioning Kins:
🌟Ask Questions: Most culture is or community blogs are so open to questions about terminology or concepts within the community. Go ask people if you're unsure of something! It's a really good way to form connections & in a community with no official resources, it's best to learn from the people. If they give you bad info, it will almost certainly be corrected by someone in the notes & you can ask multiple blogs/wait for multiple responses to your post to see if answers differ. I am very happy to answer any kin queries people have with any level of complexity - my ask box does not close.
🌟Ignore Discourse: There is so much discourse in kin & related communities about what makes someone valid, which box you fit in, how proper are you at being kin etc etc etc. Ignore it. Learn who you are first, then you can join the debate if you want once you're confident in your own identities & experiences.
🌟Research Kintypes: This doesn't have to be laborious! Therians can look at nature documentaries or read books about their theriotypes. Otherkins have myths, folklore & maybe even urban legends. Or anyone can make a Pinterest board to connect to your kintype visually! Research isn't just so you're knowledgeable, but so you can gain a better understanding of & connection to your identity.
🌟Trust Your Instincts: Kinsidering doesn't have to be super stressful or a massive deep connection. If you are Feeling The Vibe™️, you are probably right! And if you're wrong? There's no problem with that.
🌟Make Friends/Mutuals: Connections are so important in this community. By meeting new people you learn more about others' experiences & also your own. Friends can help you figure yourself out & you can offer the same insight back. Plus mutuals are fun! Connections are fun! Community is fun!
Feel free to add your own advice & share your own experiences in the notes!
For any new kins reading this: ask box is open if you have questions or just want someone to chat to about your ID - doesn't have to be monsterkin related!
I don't know if you still do these or if you've already done one but could you tips/advice for werewolfkin, please? :3
I do advice posts still! I've just been a little inactive and not many people ask for them. I actually really enjoy posts outside of culture is!
Werewolfkin Tips:
Gear can be expensive, but there are cheaper options! I have a pair of fake fangs I got for under £5 that are custom moulded to one's mouth using some plastic beads and boiling water. They look very real and feel very natural. I found mine in a fancy dress store, but you can get them for £5-£10 online! Just check they are safe for repeated use. I also have several pairs of fluffy socks that make me feel like I've got paws - I'm wearing a dark brown pair whilst I type this! You could probably combine them with some leg warmers for maximum effect. I also have several pairs of fingerless gloves that have the same effect for me because I like how they make my fingertips look like claws!
TW for very brief mentions of gore. Red sweets are a good alternative to bloody meats appearance wise. Those lollipops that make your tongue change colour are absolutely amazing for this + taste great! The red Fanta (forgot the flavour) is also very close to the colour of blood. Popping candy or those nerds sweets can feel like crunchy bones if that's also what you crave.
Following on with the foods, I've seen meat jerky recommended too as a snack!
Going camping & going for walks at night is always great, but it can be hard to do it safely. Instead, there are star projectors you can get! I have one I got from an observatory when I was little that I still use to relax in the evenings sometimes. Another free way to connect with nature is to listen to nighttime forest ambience. A lot of people do this to help them sleep. There are also apps you can get that have adjustable levels of rain & can make your phone screen flash with lightning!
A generic tip I give on all of these is to make moodboards and playlists for your kins (on spotify, the moodboards can be playlist covers)! It's just a super easy and relaxing way to connect. Don't stress over making them perfect or aesthetic & focus on them being for YOU, not your audience.
Less of a tip, more of an anecdote BUT: A few months back, when I was in a strong werewolf kinshift & struggling a little with dysphoria, I used to allocate myself werewolf time in the evenings. I'd close my bedroom door for the night & leave my curtains open with my lights off to lay out on my bed and watch the sunset & the stars come out. I found it helped my mental health quite a bit to take some quiet time and just watch the sky, sometimes opening a window to smell the evening air. I'd also use my phone sometimes during this but beware it's not great for your eyes to use screens in the dark.
I hope some of this was a little helpful! I'm tired right now from travelling so I'll come back if I think of more. Have a great day, thank you for your ask! Sorry the response took so long.
dragon / angel / cryptid kin here ! do you have any advice for connecting to this kin of mine ? [ all three are one kin ]
Oohh, that sounds like an awesome unique kintype!! I love multi/combo kins. This might be a bit of a vague/varied list because I've got to make a couple guesses about your species, but I'll see what I can think of!
Dragon/Angel/Cryptid Kin Tips:
Collect things! A lot of dragons have a hoard and a lot of angels have a particular domain they look after, so I believe you could combine these and create a collection based on what your species is associated with. If you've no particular domain, you could base a collection on your natural habitat to feel more at home! Or just an existing hobby, fandom etc.
Addition to the one above, crystals might be a fitting option + they're easy enough to find!
Wing gear is the obvious suggestion but that can be hard to find & expensive. Alternatively, you could invest in clothing that touches your back, e.g backpacks or fashion corsets, maybe also long, sleeveless jackets that swing around your torso like folded wings.
Adorn yourself with shiny jewellery (maybe make your own using crafting beads or find cheap ones in the thrift as budget options). This is shiny and scale-like for the dragon element, and it is beautiful and precious for your divine side. Not an obvious cryptidkin link here, but some people associate their cryptidkins with finding trinkets like a magpie!
Assuming there might be a paw in your species, fingerless gloves are my favourite gear because they make your fingertips look like the claws.
Snacks wise, there's gold chocolate coins (because dragon hoard + divine wealth), easter eggs are defo dragon adjacent, red fizzy drinks and red lollipops are fun sweet alternatives to any bloodlust you might have, boiled sweets for crunchy bones + meat jerky as an alternative to hunted prey!
If you want to connect to a more divine background, you could design your own sigil! There are plenty of methods online in witchcraft communities & it doesn't need to be charged or used for something magical. If you are into or interested in getting into the craft, you could probably use it for protection given it will be linked to you/your identity!
For the cryptid side, if you're feeling creative, create a fake news article or video about a sighting of you!
Hope a couple of these are helpful! Have a great day!
Hello, xenomorpkin here, do you have any advice on clothing that could be fitting for a xenomorph? Like, techwear is very kin-affirming for me but I'm curious what I could wear to make people think 'ah yes, xenomorph' or at least think 'alien'
Thank you for the ask anon and I'm very sorry about the delay!
I agree techwear totally fits the sci-fi vibes of the franchise & species! I think it looks very cool and is reasonably easy to find. Any form of dark-coloured functional fashion should give the vibe you're going for!
I'm a big fan of fingerless gloves when it comes to a lot of kintypes because they make your fingertips look like claws! I think they're an accessory that should match that fashion sense. Large platforms (could be platform trainers for the techwear look!) will probably give the xenomorph height & shiny fabrics or leathers could mimic their skin texture. The xenomorphs are fairly boney and have a lot of ribbed/spiked features, so I think maybe chains or tassels would mimic this?
If you're okay with it, black nail polish, especially on longer nails, will be good for claws. Generally black lipstick or eyeliner etc with a spikier shape would also match the Xenomorph in my opinion.
I'm assuming you're not looking for gear in this ask but if you want something subtle, then you can get some pretty cheap fake fangs online that can be moulded individually to your teeth to make them more subtle.
Hopefully one of these ideas resonates, I wish you luck anon!! Xenomorph is an awesome kintype.
If kin tips are open, do you have any tips for Lust (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) fictionkin, or FMAB homunculuskin in general if you don't do specific characters?
Hiya! I do accept specific characters but I'm unfamiliar with FMAB, so forgive me if some of these are inaccurate! I used the available wikis to get the rough vibe.
Lust seems to be heavily linked with femininity, so dresses & dark-coloured, potentially alternative makeup would be on-point! However, if you can't or don't want to present femininely, you could find jewellery, keychains or accessories with the Venus symbol. Other emblems could also be roses, dark-coloured hearts, mirrors & perhaps bats (associated with the gothic aesthetic). I think Lust would specifically be romantic goth maybe? I'm sure there is also merch of her Ouroboros mark.
Following on about the Ouroboros mark, there are long-term (approx a week) temporary tattoo pens available online (I use Bic Bodymark). You could use a set to draw it on!
Gear-wise there's coloured contacts (but be careful about brands, some can cause damage, please research) & clawed gloves or clawed rings. Clawed rings can be bought online & there are tutorials for origami claws on youtube! I can't quite tell if Lust has fangs, but they seem to fit their vibe so fake gangs are also potentially on this.
Write fanfiction! Writing fics of your media memories, AUs or just the canon of your fictionkin is always a good way to connect with them. You can also create playlists & moodboards (moodboards can then be used as the cover for playlists on spotify).
If you're spiritual, you may be interested in glamour magick & glamour witchcraft! I recommend the Witch of Wonderlust's video on this: Magickal Glamours 101
This is all I can think of for now but I hope a couple of these are helpful! Thank you for the ask.
🌌 Kin List
Otherkins:
Werewolf: My werewolf form is anthropomorphic and has fur similar to the red wolf.
Revenant: Similar to a zombiekin, but with some ghost mixed in.
Suit of Armour: Haven't decided if this is an objectkin, conceptkin, or maybe even an undeadkin! I see the armour as all silver with a blue feather plume.
Cryptid/Eldritchkin: This is a unique kintype I have a lot of very specific memories for, including a human companion. I am also another separate eldritchkin!
Phantom (Minecraft): Very canon, but I perceive myself to be more purple than blue.
Animatronic: This is a unique, original performing animatronic similar to Chuck E Cheese or FNaF.
Robot: This one is the least specific, mostly vibes.
Fictionkins: I have 30+ fictionkins so they're not on the list, but my highest are Vanny (FNaF), Reagan Ridley (Inside Job), Puppy Brown (Fangs Vampire Spy), Squirrel Girl (Marvel Comics), Lolbit (FNaF) & Tarn (Transformers).
Theriotypes: Kinsidering Tabby Cat & African Wild Dog but not in the therian community as much!
Feel free to ask anything about any of these, I will also be adding this to the pinned post! Canonmates & speciesmates appreciated, please interact! Kin assignments of any kind are welcome.
based on my vibes on this blog alone, what species would you kin assign me
