Dis moved near silently through the stacks of the Shermer High School Library, slotting book into their new spot on the shelves. Intimately familiar with the dewy decimal system, she’d labeled all the books properly at home and carried them to school in her backpack to sneak into the library during one of her free periods.
Starting with fiction, she’d already found a home for Catch-22, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, and Invisible Man, and was on her way to the Os for One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest with at least five books still in her arms.
Running her fingers along the spines of the books as she passed them on the shelves, she found the section she was looking for and pushed open a new spot, wincing when a particularly thick hard cover slipped out of place and hit the floor with a heavy thud. “Whoops...”
