Week 1: The Brief
Introducing week 1, the brief and GRAD502 12 week course.
The Brief:
KEY WORDS: Community, cause, communication, voice, conversation, promote, provoke, ignite, disrupt, activate, recognition, incite, integration, responsibility, accountability.
AIMS To develop a design system for an awareness campaign, in which specific outputs will be resolved to convey visual communication around a chosen topic. Throughout the duration of this project students will: ––locate and collate relevant content, data, and research. ––manage and undertake an iterative design process. ––develop and produce typographic and image assets. ––implement a design system for final design outputs. ––integrate final concepts across selected collateral, and appropriate formats (e.g. printed, digital, or three-dimensional).
OBJECTIVES The resolved design outputs will: i. Present a design system for an awareness campaign that uses appropriate design assets, elements, and formats relevant to the topic, context, and audience. ii. Communicate effectively to have impact, meaning and be relatable to a Gen Z demographic in Aotearoa.
Assignments:
Formative - due week 6, August 25th 5pm
1. PROPOSAL PRESENTATION DUE WEEK 6.1 + 6.2 FORMAT: 10 minutes x 10 slides.
2. 2. PROPOSAL PRESENTATION DOCUMENT FORMAT: A3 landscape PDF (minimum of 10 pages)
3. DESIGN RESEARCH + DESIGN PROCESS TUMBLR BLOG Weekly design research and design process work to be uploaded to Tumblr.
Summative - due Week 13, October 27th 5pm (worth 100%)
1. PRINTED MATTER: 8-FOLD A3 POSTER ZINE A3, colour, printed double-sided and folded.
2. AWARENESS CAMPAIGN PROJECT DOCUMENT i. Summary of you approach: conceptual and contextual, your thinking, ideation, iteration, prototyping, data,research, visual assets, processes and systems.
ii. Final Campaign Artwork: minimum 3-page design portfolio spread with annotations, to be inserted into the Awareness Campaign Project Document. Finished artwork to include a minimum of 2 final designed outcomes that must employ two formats: printed, digital or three-dimensional that responds, connects and gives meaning to the topic investigated and integrated within project. FORMAT: Printed, bound A3 landscape and PDF or fixed-layout EPUB, 1000 words minimum (APA 7th).
3. DESIGN RESEARCH + DESIGN PROCESS TUMBLR BLOG To evidence: weekly research, investigation, testing, ideation and documentation in support of your final campaign design outputs.
