100. THE CANNONBALL RUN (1981)
The Cannonball Run is just a fun '80s movie - a comedy and a bit of action. Certainly not politically correct. Great movie.
PLOT: An eccentric group of racers meet in Connecticut to compete in an illegal road race to California. They, the contenders use different tactics and disguises to get ahead - ambulance driver, catholic priests, women using their sex appeal, Japanese team using computerized car, a wealthy sheikh, a wealthy man in a James Bond vehicle as well as captain chaos.
The films stars Burt Reynolds, Roger Moore, Dom DeLuise, Farrah Fawcett, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, and Jackie Chan.
The film was influenced on the 1979 Cannonball Trophy Dash road race.
There's a sequel to this film, Cannonball Run II (1983). These were the last films Dean Martin made before his death.
During filming a stunt woman, aged 24, was seriously injured whilst doing a scene where a car weaves between other vehicles. The car she was in for the stunt had problems, some were fixed and some weren't and the vehicle also had no seatbelts. During the stunt, her car went head on with a van which broke her neck and leaving her a quadriplegic. She was awarded $3 million.
There was going to be a new modern film based on the Cannonball Run movies by Warner Bros - but nothing set in stone as yet.
