Chalene is one tough lady, with a voice and a platform big enough to help educate and protect future patients. There is no place for “manspaining” in a surgical consent. A surgical discussion and explanation should be free of condescending, patronizing attitudes. 🛑Patients entrust us, as surgeons, with their lives, their identities, their beauty, and their sexuality. They allow us to operate on them in an unconscious state, with full vulnerability. To do anything but honor that relationship and trust with ethical integrity is a shame. 🛑Surgery is one of the most intimate connections we make patients, and anything that violates that is an invasion.
