I've just come across your amazing post about the male villains of Austen and exploitation, and I utterly adored it. I just wondered, since you've done all the adaptations, have you seen Kandukondein Kandukondein? It's a tamil Bollywood adaptation of Sense and Sensibility, and I'd love to hear your opinion - I find (from an asian perspective) that the idea of marriage as financial stability for women really works in the updated 2000s Indian setting, but your thoughts on Brandon as war wounded?

I’m afraid I haven’t seen it—or all the other adaptations, actually. Quite a few of them, but there are probably just as many that I didn’t watch.

Sorry for just randomly divebombing your inbox with these but I'm rewatching to prep for S5 and most of the AD fandom has gone into hibernation (and you and lydiduh are the blogs who I used to go for my AD fix). That bit where Gob goes "my gut is telling me no, but my gut is also feeling hungry" and it's funny but a little bit sad at the same time considering we see him spiral down over the series - I only just realised that Michael then pushes the sandwich towards him and my heart is hard :(

Omg I agree so much with this - I used to love this movie as a kid (still do) but when I watched it back recently a lot of the messages kinda stick out?

Ive been doing some reading about this for my thesis and it turns out neelambari was like one of many female characters which were a part of this tradition. ‘Modern’ english educated women who were caricatures of women involved in liberation activism, hence all he feminist-y sounding dialogues. Like sure now we’re like YAAAAAAs, but the original intention of those dialogues was to get the audience to actively dislike her blehh

It’s Farm Gays VI but with a good ending! I mean their relationship is not the healthiest but there’s room to assume they will grow together as farm husbands. Also honestly I missed all the Brexit topicality because there was a LOT of penis and I needed to process that first

Actually, the plot sickens - she is 100% like this with me bc we’re both Jewish women working for a Jewish non-profit, and my predecessor was a gentile dude and I know for a fact she did not try this shit with him. It’s like she totally inappropriately has begun to view me as her personal project to be more like her.

Okay I don’t quite understand what is happening there, but it seems like they are two gay animu figure skaters and they are both named Yuri? That actually seems like an excellent plot, so good for them.

All Russian stereotypes are true. It’s a dark, godless place
