Scenery outside this restaurant was amazing! Albeit, it was a little on the gloomy side when we went to this restaurant but it didn't take away from the quality of food and service that was presented. Even though the sun wasn't shining, it was still gorgeous to look out to the sea.
The Fish Hopper was quite an alright restaurant. Highlights of the meal were the bacon wrapped halibut, stuffed prawn risotto and skillet cookie sundae. It was excessively evident that the ingredients used to make these dishes were fresh - as fresh as could be, really. There's no comparison between boxed up frozen seafood and fresh caught seafood - the taste is truly impeccable.
Appetizers: Half Shell Raw Oysters; Crab Cakes; Bowl Clam Chowder
Raw oysters, as per usual, are impeccable. Honestly, to me, there is no better appetizer that has the raw sexual magnetism that oysters have! I would have these bad boys anytime anywhere. To have raw oysters that are from the seaside is sooooo good. Although the oysters were good, there weren't bombshell amazing. Also, there were uneven portions of the oysters, some were plump and fat, whilst others seem like they had wittled away before being served. Nonetheless, a great dish regardless.
These crab cakes were good, they weren't over oily or pan fried for too long. They had a sufficient amount of crab in them - which actually makes a large difference as opposed to just another average restaurant's fake crab meat made to seem "amazing." There aren't many restaurants that can master crab cakes but The Fish Hopper has done quite a decent job. Beautifully crispy and equally delightful and savoury on the inside. Stellar mango chili sauce and red pepper aioli on the side.
Now, this clam chowder was good. But to be honest, not amazing. I know that The Fish Hopper's clam chowder is deemed as "award winning." I'm not saying the chowder was bad or anything - 'cause it wasn't! It was good but not mind blowingly good and I expected more.
Main: Bacon Wrapped Halibut; Stuffed Prawn Risotto
Now these main dishes? AHMAHZING. I don't know if you got that so let me spell it out for you. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. This bacon wrapped halibut was the bomb. It was seared to perfection and was a super smooth eat. The halibut would easily break apart so that it could be devoured. It was embedded with a creamy risotto, asparagus and a light spinach pesto sauce drizzled over the halibut.
This was, by far, the best dish that the Fish Hopper had to offer. The stuffed prawns were absolutely delicious. There were three huge prawns stuffed with crab meat and drizzled with a seafood sauce. It sat on top of a bed of risotto, asparagus and spinach. The shrimp was cooked beautifully, not overcooked and not undercooked. I'm not the biggest shrimp fan but I couldn't stop eating this dish.
Dessert: Chocolate Bread Pudding; Skillet Cookie Sundae
First dessert up to the plate to bat is the chocolate bread pudding. It was more brownie than chocolate bread pudding in my opinion. It had a tiny side of whipped cream drizzled with a heavy chocolate sauce. It was light and fluffy but nothing out of the ordinary. It was scrumptious but there were definitely better items on the menu.
Now THIS dessert is the winner! The ice cream cookie sundae was prepared and baked in a hot skillet and comes right out of the oven into our mouths. It is one of the most decadent desserts I have ever had. A scrumptious, charred outside with a melty, gooey, ooey cookie plate found in the skillet. It was generously topped with two scoops of ice cream and a LOT of whipped cream and strawberries. The dessert topped off the meal perfectly and brought the whole experience a little closer to perfection.
