This book is near perfect. If you/your readers are a fan of The Secret Garden this should equally enthral and delight. Set during World War 2 in Suffolk England, Clara is sent to live with relatives while her Father recovers from war injuries. However the relatives do not warmly welcome her and loneliness and anxiety threaten Clara’s well being. There is intrigue and suspense as little mysteries become bigger mysteries. Glorious description of fruit, and gardens are juxtaposed against characters who are struggling against deprivations and hardship. Clara is a loyal friend and warm hearted girl who steals herself to be brave and determined in the face of disapproval and challenges that may bring her undone. Beautifully written this book was a joy to read.
