This was getting ridiculous! Reeve hoiked his laptop onto his shouder and dragged his carry-on out of toilets, hair around his forehead still damp and beard still glistening from where he had just splashed his face at the sink. The toilets smelled of urine, the only seats available were torture implements (all the ‘massage chairs’ had been commandeered by then-screaming, now-snoring kids), all the shops had shut down for the night and the only coffee that was available was the sludge that passed for ‘arabica’ from the crappy machines in the corridor.
Reeve was not the most important person in the world, that was sure, and he could usually complete his work wherever, and whenever, it was necessary. But the delay had gone from 2 hours, to 4 hours, to 5 and then 6. At this point he had exercised his rights as a consumer, but was told the flight was now expected for ‘early morning’, so overnight accomodation was only an option if he wanted to wait for another full day.
8 hours later and he was starting to wish he had gone to the hotel. At least there would be reliable wi-fi. Perhaps even a mini-bar.
Reeve sighed. His previous seat had been taken up by someone wanting to lie down and sleep, and the last thing the architect wanted was a confrontation. He scanned for another spot to ‘settle’ and hopefully get on with his next piece of work. There were a couple of seats free, next to that one man who clearly did not get the memo about the lounge being non-smoking, the nicotine haze around the guy putting the rest of the passengers off. Reeve grimaced and looped over to the other side, sitting down a bit too forcifully, bag slipping from his shoulder whilst his luggage fell from his hand to the floor with a clatter, “Dammit!”
“Ah, everyone’s favourite pilot and Admiral of the airship division? Mmm, where do I start…
Well first things first I suppose would be our work. Cid is a brilliant aeronautical Engineer, and has also proven himself a very capable business man in his efforts for the W.R.O. and in setting up his own company. As such, we have commonality and certain… camaraderie that seems to arise from working on projects day in day out. Even though we approach things differently in terms of our personalities, we connect easily on many intellectual – as well as some everyday – matters and he is one of very few people I feel able to be completely natural around.
In fact, natural is a fine word for our relationship. I never really saw myself being physically attracted to such a brawny kind of fella, but now that is has happened – I find his physicality almost magnetically appealing. Even though we have only gone out dancing so far in our relationship (he is a talented mover) he feels good and makes me feel good in return. I have not particularly had a similar relationship before and as a man that spends so much time in his own head, I find it refreshing. I also somewhat like the fact he is shorter than I and those freckles are very cute…”
Like Reeve, this was a ship that was not in full sail before we both came to Tumblr, though I did used to re-visit a particularly sexy fic by albedosoyna when I wanted a fix! To be honest (aside from one notable exception) Reeve was very much solely into women and Cid just seemed a little too masculine, a little too brash and a little too emotional to truly gel with my version of Reeve. Little did I know just how great these two can be together! Credit for this ship therefore has to go to thegoddamnrocketscientist who himself admittedly didn’t see the point in Reeve at all (heathen!) in the past… so this has been a true development for the both of us.
The fact Reeve talks about Cid first in terms of his capabilities as a fellow Engineer (Science Bro) and fledging business man is telling. These guys are very different personality wise, but they really do have a lot in common. For a man whose work and skills are very much an important part of him, it is good to have someone he can trust in these areas, who understands some of the problems and the perks to his job. They don’t even have to talk about it in detail (though I can imagine them holding some crazy conversations after a few drinks) it’s enough to know that that knowledge is there and is something Reeve can share if he has had a particularly knotty day. Well, that’d be the day he’d be that open, at least on a regular basis, but he knows it is there if the time ever comes…
In terms of their personality differences - it is clear as day, but even that has been shown to be another boon, not a detractor, over time. Reeve seems to be able to diffuse Cid without even trying and Cid can make him act more like an everyday guy, helping him to be at least a teensy widdle bit more in the emotional pull-and-tug of reality. And whilst others do encourage the more mischievous side to Reeve, it is often more cerebral, whereas with Cid it seems more like two blokes messing around, more playful. And he does so enjoy winding the Captain up.
Last but not least, Reeve is attracted very much to Cid’s passion and his ability to dream as high as the skies. It is something he also has within (though it is far more grounded), but he does not express that side of himself with anywhere near the exuberance of the Captain. He is infinitely more quiet and practical, Cait Sith aside, so it is a pleasure for him to see someone still pursuing something so openly without giving a fig about the restrictions. Reeve is far more cynical than the other, but Cid seems to understand that, inadvertently perhaps helping to keep the idealist alive.
[askljasgjadf two more to do! omg :|
Reeve: mun did you really need to analyse my love life to this extent?
Eli: well, one of us has to… though I didn’t think about it being this popular and just *words* X3]
I see ya got video footage've me peein', but here's wha' I wanna know. Wha's th' worst thing ya got encrypted on them computers involvin' me?
There is a moment before Reeve breathed out, unable to stop the reply…
"Of you, Captain, Admiral? Personnel files built up over time are rather extensive as to be expected of your position. That particular video stream however was not something of my design. Its origin lays in worlds beyond us, even if the footage is… familiar.
The worst involves you and Palmer or Nanaki, apparently.”
*ooc: Reeve is not explicitly in a relationship at the moment. However he is close to two people in main RP – Shalua and Vincent – and also Cid in an “AU is AU” – so these questions will be answered for them. More under the cut
If applicable: who is their current partner, and what attracted the character to them?
Shalua: Pretty much everything about this woman attracted Reeve to her. She’s intelligent, beautiful, strong and perfectly flawed. She knows him, she knows how to handle him – at least, when he is not being even more awkward than usual, such as disappearing for 8 months to Wutai - and he has pretty much been smitten with her from the day they first met. She is, in essence, his absolute ideal – scars and all. Unfortunately for Reeve, she is also now unavailable.
Vincent: The attraction to Vincent has been a slow burn over several years, flickering into a more heated blaze in the aftermath of Deepground. Physically, Vincent hits the mark (as any good gunman should) yet had always seemed practically untouchable; out of reach - at least in terms of a relationship. There were always at least two people Reeve did not even want to try to contend with.
Cid: The majority of the attraction lies in the solid camaraderie he has with the Captain as well as similar interests (and, surprisingly, the occasional viewpoint). Cid makes Reeve feel refreshingly normal, despite being called all manner of crazy things by the man. He is also rather attracted by Cid’s passion and the way he holds on to his dreams.
How did they meet? How long have they been together?
Shalua: He met her whilst she was still in Avalanche and he was in ShinRa. She knew things about him (such as the fact he knew where the Turks were, as well as about his interests that she could use to her advantage) and thought he could get her closer to finding Shelke. Long story short, things went tits up but along the way Reeve fell for her. There were many years where they were apart, but at the inception of the W.R.O. he knew he had to seek her out.
Vincent: He met Vincent with the rest of Avalanche as they uncovered the slumbering ex-Turk in ShinRa mansion, though he remembers seeing his figure featuring predominantly in Veld’s files. It was quite some time before he got to meet the man face to face but Vincent soon came to be a welcome, if often fleeting, sight. Since ‘recruiting’ his help with Deepground, Reeve has spent more and more time with him, though the ex-Turk still has a habit of disappearing (not that he can talk).
Cid: Reeve got himself into some trouble in Rocket Town - misinterpreting the intentions of one of the townsfolk via a culmination of small world naivety and subsequent familiarisation with the permissiveness of the City slums. Cid helped him out, and he returned the favour. They were reacquainted in Avalanche and most recently Cid became the Admiral for the W.R.O. There really was no other person Reeve would have even considered.
What kind of a relationship is it? Do they have any plans for the future?
Shalua: The relationship between Reeve and Shalua is so, so much more than boss and employee. She is his centre, his confidant, his soldier and scientist. It is also actually much more than mere friendship, but he considers that enough (more than he deserves perhaps) if that is how it is to be in the future. She deserved more than he could provide, and so Rufus Shinra better be good enough for her - otherwise it is likely the whole planet would be under threat in that particular relationship fallout.
Vincent: He still does not quite fully know where he stands with the gunman in terms of having a full blown relationship but they are close, undoubtedly. It is a powerfully affecting relationship, one that speaks volumes even when they don’t share a word, as moving as the tides with all the subtle undercurrents that cause such ebbs and flows underpinning everything. There are many directions they could take yet it seems they are being compelled down a particular route together – though where to, Gaia only knows.
Cid: It is a relaxed relationship, masculine and pretty damn geeky to boot! There will come a time when they will have to address the erstwhile space programme and the W.R.O.’s stance on space exploration. This just might put a spanner in the works of the relationship between the two engineers, but for now, it remains a pleasurable partnership.
What would be their perfect date?
Shalua: Something between just the two of them - no interfering factors, no external pressures. Small luxuries; a long time spent on them, and on each other. Some home cooked food, a shared bath perhaps. Reeve would want to give Shalua a massage, relishing having the rare chance to spend as much time as he liked appreciating her in her entirety (and you never know, she might even let him for once...)
Vincent: Vincent would take Reeve to a shooting range to improve his aim; Reeve would do better than expected but will end up laughing it off. There would be some incredibly indulgent sweet involved, for Vincent’s pleasure. There would also probably be some sinful contact, for both their pleasure. At one point Cait Sith will make Vincent blush, or glare, or perhaps even crack a rare smile. Reeve however would spend the rest of the night figuring out how he could manipulate the situation back to that sinful contact again.
Cid: Day spent playing with the machines, getting dirty and arguing about Star Wars vs. Star Trek. Just as muscle strain starts to kick in, it would be into the shower to loosen them up in the heat before working them out again in another way entirely. Evening spent outside, drinking tea / whisky and arguing, this time about philosophy and astrophysics.
Describe one of the character’s past relationships and what was significant about it.
Scarlet. It was another one of those relationships where he was struck by an intense attraction from the start, but did not make a move being as he was an awkward young man in college and she was about to graduate with the highest honours into Shin-Ra Electric Company. They shared a few lectures, and for some reason Scarlet liked to sit next to him (Reeve suspects she enjoyed making young men flustered).
One time she leant over and corrected an equation in his extra-curricular notes. By this point he was already in danger of falling in love. They had lunch – she ate far more than him (he blamed the nerves until it became evident her appetites far surpassed his own, in so many areas). Eventually Scarlet got fed up and decided to take things into her own hands. They ended up having a relationship for a year and a half by which point Reeve was also arriving at Shinra and Scarlet had worked her way up the ranks, soon to become a Director.
Things change, people change and Scarlet and Reeve were never particularly lacking in ambition or drive. Their relationship ended, not with a bang but with an implosion. The rest, as they say, is history. It was undoubtedly the most significant past relationship as Scarlet was the first person Reeve had loved. He had not even thought that was possible.
Have they ever hurt someone they loved? Yes, he suspects he has.
Do they fall in love easily? Reeve has quite the intuition about who is going to be important to him, so in that sense, he has fallen for three people almost immediately. However, no, he does not fall in love easily. There is no part of his life that would allow that sort of lea-way for a start. He also considers the impact his affections would have on a person – it is not a burden to be given freely.
outofcharacter: "Three professor(s)...I am hopeless. Muse, also, is making a face to convey his disgust. While I do adore Crimby, what mine feel toward his is less than pleasant. Man, I have not done this for so long, have I?"
