Last up for the Alpha Team lineup: Kaldok 😊 ~~ If you ever wanted to see the definition of calm and serene, it would be Kaldok…If not for his appearance. Kaldok is the only known survivor of the Werewolf Curse, having retained the fullness of his personality despite being bitten many years ago. He’s quick with a smile and a hug, and trims his claws often to ensure he never hurts someone. Slow to speak, always thinking through his responses to situations, he’s the center of the team whether he intended to be or not. The Alpha Team's resident goofball: Krelien 😀 ~~ A self-described “ray of moonshine”, Krelien brings equal doses of laughter and frustration to those around him every single day. As if he’s been stuck at the age of twelve, he finds stupid things funny, and latches onto whatever sounds like it’ll make people think he’s cool and “with the timex”. He’s seventy-percent sure that most of the team likes him, and ninety-percent sure that Ar’on doesn’t, and sixty-percent sure that Jen would rather hang out with him over anyone else on the team, and ten percent sure he isn’t good at math. ~~~ Krelien is a quick favorite, and tends to top the leaderboard for the beta readers more often than not. He's definitely super fun to write for, and I laugh at his commentary throughout my life (just the other day I could hear him screaming about baby gates and how to get around them). Last up for creature intros: werewolves! ~~ Little is known of how werewolves came to be, or what the specifics are that make their bites contageous. Werewolves on Tilion don’t have the curse merely attack them during the full moon, rather all the time. Once bitten and consumed by the disease, the creatures lose all semblance of themselves and their individuality. There has only ever been one hybrid to survive the bite and retain his sense of self. ~~~ I'm not like, super into werewolves you guys. I enjoy the lore surrounding lycanthropy, but the lore of werewolves on Tilion is different. Creature introduction number 2: Bratak'ra. ~~ Four-legged, large creatures, normally around the size of a horse, sometimes smaller, with large horns that adorn their heads. Their snouts are typically tall and broad. They have massive paws and always have their claws visible. Many have teeth that jut out of their maw and are visible when they close their mouths. The older a Bratak’ra is, the more horns they have. Young ones without horns are called Bratak. They earn the ‘ra to the end of the name once they gain horns. ~~~ These beasties were spawned from a random doodle I did in high school. I had no notion of what they were or how they functioned, only that I had a random sketch of something different on the back of my chem notes. Setting info! The bulk of #theriseoftheraidin takes place in a made-up high school called Southridge. I love a good dose of irony, so their mascot is a dragon. ~~ Southridge is somewhat based off of my high school, and the name is literally just a smashing together of my school district and the name of my middle school. Thus, Southridge. I borrowed a fair bit from the very real high school I attended (@pennridgehs) for the school's layout and some of the descriptions of the building. Next up for #characterintroduction is Tyron! ~~ Well trained and dedicated to his task, Tyron won’t let anything get in his way. He’s sure to stand firm against any opposition. He strikes a level of fear into others who don’t know him and commands a room with relative ease. Little scares him. He fights with the knowledge that if he fails, others likely will die. And that’s unacceptable to him. He’s seen enough of life to know what’s worth fighting for and what’s not. ~~~ Tyron was one of the first characters to pop into my noggin back in middle school. Creature Introduction number 1! ~~ They look like humans, but they aren't. Calling themselves hybrids, they're part human and part dragon. We would call them dragonborn. Many possess rapid cellular regeneration, wings, bone spikes, and can manifest raw energy for fighting and defense. They come from a world called Tilion, and how it's connected to Earth isn't something a human can simply stumble upon. ~~~ The concept for hybrids was, quite honestly, born from my own desire to not have to wear glasses and have my scoliosis magically disappear. I was in middle school when the first few characters came to mind, so the story was legitimately built from a hope to make the world bend to my childish whims. They've grown substantially since then, as have their varied abilities. Cover reveal day is here! Synopsis below 👇 ~~~ Jennifer Monroe is an average eighteen-year-old girl, and she knows it. The spotlight doesn’t favor her, nor does she seek it out.
