35 The Imaginary Invalid by Moliere dir Randy Reinholz. So fall semester of my (to date) last year of college had a wrinkle in that I HAD to come home for one weekend, and that weekend just happened to coincide with semester general auditions and callbacks. ISU would have a day of Generals for all three/four shows for that semester, then the individual directors would have two or three rounds of callbacks for their individual shows over the rest of the week. I did my monologue and then got on a bus home, and came back when the weekend was over to third round callbacks for all the shows. So I had no idea what was going on. And in a lot of them, they were at the “I’ve seen you all twice before, let’s just get crazy with it!” phase of the auditions. Luckily I got to audition for Invalid with Brendan Hunt, who I knew well and had a rapport with, and I got cast in Invalid. It was Randy’s first semester teaching at ISU and was an unknown quantity, but I got fairly lucky in that he and his wife, Jean Bruce Scott were both awesome people with a great deal of real world experience to teach us. John C. Stark’s set was his consistent level of awesome, and we had a 30 second gag at the beginning of the show with a live goat, who semi-regularly waited until he was on stage to do his business. Kind of like me. Sadly I was back to wearing wigs, since the last of the locks went away for the previous show. And I wouldn’t have the patience to grow it out again for 15 more years. Oh I also played Baralde so I didn’t come in until the last act so I got a lot of reading done. One of my favorite entrances because I got to run in and throw Brendan over my shoulder.
