“What sort of rotten thing are you up to now cousin?” Twisting her hair into a long tail, Lux tossed it behind her shoulder and sneered at Malachi, “Entertain me as to why.”

Mal read the messages, and when promptly he lifted from his perch against the wall and entered the room. "Excuse me. I'm supposed to be meeting a Violet here. Apparently we haven't- Oh, it's you. I've met you." He grinned with whites showing proudly as he approached her, hands going to her waist instead of their appointed task. "You look beautiful."

Thankfully her room mates were out. Violet would never be so bold as to change with either of them there, no matter how kind they were. When the door opened she was expecting him, setting her brush onto the vanity before turning to greet Malachi. “Did I look different for a minute? One of my room mates is blond, I can see the confusion. Thank you, hi.” A small shift of vision to the position of his hands, Violet focused back on his handsome visage before standing on the tips of her toes to steal a small kiss.

Her cheeks flushed a violent scarlet as she begrudgingly accepted the gift. Violet had never done presents well, all the more knowing the lineage that Malachi came from. The very idea that he spent any exuberant amount of money on her was enough to drive her into a permanent corner. But she knew she couldn’t argue with him. Gingerly the blonde plucked at the powder blue bow and when that was undone she lifted the lid of the box--

too extravagant. Of course it was absolutely gorgeous. For a long moment Violet was speechless, simply staring at the bauble in its precious manger but after she gained the ability to speak she merely commented, “It’s so beautiful.”

More silence. For a long while she just looked at it, too afraid that touching it would shatter something so precious. Only when she broke eye contact with the necklace did she look up to Malachi and ask, “Help me put it on?”

“Because I am from a very traditional family, this was an absolute must. May I see your hand,” he asked, before presenting the orchid corsage in his own from behind his back.

Of course she was surprised. When prompted she extended her hand, not a second thought to it, and paused when he revealed what was in his own. The orchid matched perfectly. What's more -- it was her absolute favorite flower. "O-oh. Oh my. Thank you, it's beautiful."

5: Do you like to use post-it notes?

6: Do you cut out coupons but then never use them?

All the time.

30: When was the last time you wrote a letter to someone on paper?

Probably not since writing was required without a computer? Since like grade school, I don’t know. I type that out now.

51: Last time you got a portrait taken by a photographer?

Um, last Thanksgiving? We had a family portrait and then individuals. It was nice.

55: Favorite type of fruit pie?

Cherry pie, hands down. I love the tartness of it and I will purposely eat the crust first, the cherries and then the glaze. Tart and then sweet.

57: Do you believe in ghosts?

No, not really. I might get spooked from time to time but my thoughts go to human reasons, mechanical reasons and then physical monster reasons. Never a malevolent spirit.

78: Who would you like to see in concert?

Jacqueline du Pré or Apocalyptica.

99: Do you miss anyone right now?

My brother. He has the wisdom of an immortal and the humor of an annoying seven-year-old. I need a bit of him.

It Follows, Malachi & Violet.

Don’t be nervous. Her mother had kissed the top of her head on the way out of her bedroom, an action she seldom did any more that always managed to take Violet back to a younger self. She felt so small in that moment, like the white and frilly sun dress she had chosen for the evening was a few sizes too big and her knees were knobbly once more, a crown of stringy blonde hair just the slightest mess. Instead there stood a seventeen year old, not a strand out of place with a dress that made her father raise a brow when she made it down to the kitchen. For both of their sanity he kept his thoughts to himself, but when Violet made for the door to wait outside he scooped her into a tight hug and did the same as Sarah: pressed a kiss to the crown of her head. For some reason it felt like an odd rite of passage ... and Violet felt herself chuckling at the idea as she paced for the door.

What timing it was too, he pulled up not a minute after she made her way down the walk and into Malachi’s car Violet went. To say there was a form of excitement at the prospect of their date was a severe understatement: he was charming, handsome, and kind ... three things that seldom approached or went near the blonde and if they did in fact exist it was so caught up with someone else that they never bothered to pay mind to her. It was fine of course, her experience in New York was not to find a date but ... it was nice to have someone to spend time with. The friends she had met thus far seemed superficial at best, they had no interest in her as a person. Their interests were just in her as amusement for the time being. Small talk held the way for the drive, arrival at the theater twenty minutes before the movie was set to start, time for them to laze around.

“So ... are you ready to be scared out of your wits, then?” Violet bumped him with her elbow, a widespread grim across her face.
