Sub Pop’s latest signing, Jo Passed, are an invigorating four piece from Vancouver.
‘Left’ introduces their debut, an airy art pop inspired number effervescent of the sharp softness of Bjork, but culminates in a punk spirited unsettling noise. ‘MDM’ and ‘Glass’ assume the puzzling angularity of Kagoule, where the songs contort and wind in a cryptic blur.
The middle section of the record is blissful and understated, but never boring. Intricate melodies and sensitivity dance around in your ear drums, proving that Jo Passed have really created a record you can get lost in.
‘Millenial Trash Blues’ hits back hard with a large dose of grunge and fuzz; the Canadian quartet really know how to shake things up, whilst still remaining consistent in their core. The record finishes in an all encompasing, cinematic like experience; the goosebump enducing, penultimate number ‘Places Please’, engulfs you in a sonic version of a gush of cold wind.
Their Prime executes the story of lost time and identity with serenity in the most articulate and artistic of ways.

Vancouver, Canada -- Jo Passed will be releasing their debut album Their Prime on May 25 via Sub Pop records. Take a listen to their track “MDM”, a song that’s a bit heavier on the rock spectrum with guitar licks that absolutely shred and a heftier bass presence. Right from the beginning, you know “MDM” is going to be one of those head-banger tracks with the guitar shrills and the fullness of the drums. There’s just something about the track that gives it such a classic rowdy teen spirit vibe that’ll have you dancing on your toes and throwing elbows at those around you.
