My sister encouraged me to keep journaling
so I will.
This morning Tim rolled out of bed at 5am or some crazy time to go to drill. I stayed in bed. Sleeping in until 8:15am is sure nice on the weekends!
It was a perfect morning to work out at 9am…but then again, every morning is. I donned my workout clothes grabbed my coconut-almond-butter filled Clif bar (insert heavenly melodies here, those things are ah-MAY-zing) from the fridge, filled my blender bottle with water, and headed for the gym. Luke, Vicky, Eva, Diego, Ry, and Christiana were already there warming up. I love those guys - my adopted fam. No other 24 or Gold’s Gym has that kind of community. Several other athletes trickled in and everyone proceeded to do:
The main workout of the day, a partner WOD: 35-minute AMRAP switching off assault biking (or rowing) for cals and wallballs, ascending reps starting at 1. It was awful. I teamed up with Ed and kept needing to apologize to him for forgetting to change the damper on the rower every time I finished rowing, even though he faithfully changed it every time for me (he rows at 10 and I row at 3).
Some of us stuck around (Vicky - of course - and Christiana) so we did some accessory stuff:
10-min. EMOM of 4 single-leg deadlifts (55# at first, then 35# when I realized I should probably save my slightly-strained back from becoming fully strained)
More accessory stuff: Tabata handstand holds
Even more accessory stuff: Tabata weighted dead hangs from the pull-up bar (35#)
Even MORE accessory stuff (last one, promise): 10-minute EMOM of 2 strict muscle-ups
It was splendid. Winnie finally made it in and was sweet enough to work on my back around her own workout, during which Vicky accompanied her EVEN THOUGH SHE DID THE EXACT SAME WORKOUT OF THE DAY EARLIER.* We also strategized a bit on how we’re gonna game our workouts in the upcoming Crossfit comp at Crown City. So stoked to compete with them!
Anyways, Winnie worked wonders on my back. As an athletic trainer, she knows exactly how people move…and how to move people. She has the healing touch, even though her deep-tissue massaging to my back, hips, and glutes half knocked me unconscious.
I left for home chugging Progenex and feeling quite peachy. After scarfing some leftover pasta and arugula salad down (and fish oil! can’t forget my fish oil!), I tried working on my online CF Anatomy course, which almost immediately lent itself to a big fat food coma.
I took another nap. THEN I was able to get stuff done, including clean the bathroom and the kitchen table and work on the Anatomy course. Eric was sweet to randomly text and ask if I wanted T-Pumps and I of course said yes, and also asked if he could pick up some poke for Tim to surprise him when he came back from drill.
The day ended well, with Tim coming home from drill right on time and Eric and Diana dropping off the milk tea and poke soon after. We watched a couple episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender; we’re re-watching that series because it’s soooooo goooood. We also did a ROMWOD session, then had some good quiet time (Tim played Hearthstone and I read a couple chapters of Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell).
Altogether it was really quite a successful day, by my standards. It ended very well, too, with me having the idea to jot it all down.
* I convinced them to make it a 20-min. AMRAP instead of 35 min. to save Vicky from ultimate destruction or rhabdo, whatever would come first, since Vicky decided to do GHD sit-ups instead of wallballs and they decided to ski erg instead of assault bike/row; you’d think these women would be a bit more sensible being members of a gym called REASON, crazies…
