108 The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara adapted by Karen Tarjan dir Matthew Miller for Lifeline Theatre. The day the Three Musketeers closed, and most of that cast went to Sun Wah to try the duck dinner, I instead walked upstairs and began rehearsals for The Killer Angels. The original KA was developed and directed by Karen and Ned Mochel back in 2004. This was the first remount I had ever worked on at Lifeline. And remount is the wrong word. Revival maybe. The Killer Angels is a novel about the battle of Gettysburg, and the cast plays the major participants of that battle (Lee, Longstreet, Pickett, Chamberlain, etc.). And while there are some battle sequences in the show (Little Round Top, Pickett’s Charge) most of it is conversations and the anticipation/aftermath of war. I myself played General Buford (Union), Major Taylor (Confederacy), and several Union soldiers. Our version leaned into the fact that it was a piece of theatre. We changed characters on stage. Horses were stools placed on rolling cases. Pickett’s Charge and the gigantic loss of life was symbolized by a handful of us walking forward and when we would get “shot” we would drop out coat to the floor, grab another off of a rack and get back in line and repeat until the stage was littered with coats. A solid cast that was always a joy to be around, this was a special experience. #retrospective #2013 #lifelinetheatre #thekillerangels #michaelshaara #karentarjan #matthewmiller #gettysburg #nugglet #applebutter #boom (at Lifeline Theatre) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8ExUHKJSF-/?igshid=bp86u30hvge1
