Characters: Clint Barton/DaddyHawk, Wanda Maximoff, Pietro Maximoff.
Summary: After the Maximoff twins are hit by a de-aging ray on a mission, and turn into five year olds, Steve decides it’s safest for them to stay at the farm with the Bartons. In this installment: Clint takes the twins food shopping. Or tries. Chaos ensues. Inspired by this after seeing it pop up on my dash shortly before I wrote this.
Author’s Notes: Firstly: I wrote this at 2am last night, so I apologise in advance for spelling mistakes, grammar mistakes, and the shitty af format of this whole thing. I haven’t bothered editing it because I just don’t. I’m bad like that. But thekingarises and quick-vision told me to post it, so here it is! Also, because I usually write based on the roleplay/headcanons I have with quick-vision, there are little references to that in this that people might not understand. The main one is the gloriousness that is QuickVision. We ship Pietro/Vision. There’s a teeny tiny reference to it in this, so I probably don’t really need to explain but hey, I’m explaining. Also a slight reference to ScarletAmerica, because Wanda/Steve. Yeah, that’s about it! This is pure fluff and cute, enjoy!
When Laura tells Clint to go shopping, and take the recently ‘hit with a de-aging ray gun’ned Maximoff twins with him – it doesn’t seem too hard. After all, Clint had been shopping with all three of the Barton children before, and there hadn’t been any incidents. Of course, Clint (and Laura) had raised those children – and they didn’t have telekinesis, and super speed.
Getting to the shopping mall was no problem – the twins behaved themselves in the truck, as well as in the parking lot – the twins having automatically taken each other’s hand like they did as adults, and Wanda taking Clint’s hand without protest. But once they were in the mall… All hell broke loose. “What is that?!” Five year old Pietro called out, staring wide eyed up at the giant M&M statue in the centre of the mall. “That’s where they sell new flavours of M&Ms chocolate, like a pop up stall.” Clint explained, starting towards the supermarket – stopping when he felt the tug on his hand of the twins still staring at the statue. “Can we get some?!” Pietro asked excitedly, grinning brightly up at him. Clint chuckled, unable to help himself when he saw the big grin on the kid’s face. “After the supermarket, okay kid?” “Why not now?” “Because we have to get the shopping for Mo—For Laura.” Clint told him, frowning at himself for the near slip up. Pietro hadn’t noticed, however, too busy scowling at Clint about the chocolate. “But it’s right there!” He whined. “Kid, we won’t be long, you can wait for the chocolate.” Clint told him firmly. “Fine.” Pietro grumbled. Clint nodded, glad that was finished with as he started towards the supermarket again – barely making it a few steps before he felt Wanda tug his hand again, followed by her shrill voice. “Pietro!” She shrieked, Clint turning quickly to see what had happened – just catching sight of a blue blur disappearing into the crowd. He let out a long breath, starting back towards the M&Ms statue. “Your brother’s trouble, Wanda.” He told the little girl, who simply nodded in agreement. At least Wanda was on her best behaviour. As expected, once they reached the giant statue – there was Pietro, hands full of packets of M&Ms. “Pietro!” Clint called firmly, marching over to the boy, who looked up at him with wide, innocent eyes. “You can’t run off like that, kid. Not right now.” Clint told him, hoping the five year old understood the meaning behind his words. If he lost either of the twins when they were in this state, who knew what would happen? “I just wanted chocolate…” Pietro told him quietly, bright eyes lowering as he looked at the packets in his hands. Clint sighed again – already feeling a headache coming on. “You can have one packet.” “What about Wanda?” “One each, then.” “What about Lila? And Cooper? And Nate, and Laura?” Pietro continued to ask, slowly moving towards the counter. “Fine.” Clint breathed, not in the mood to argue with the quick little brat. Pietro grinned, sprinting to the counter and putting down the packets, one at a time. One for him, one for Wanda, one for Lila, one for Cooper, one for Nate, and one for Laura. And then one more. “Hey.” Clint warned, frowning at Pietro. “I said one packet each, who’s that for, Lucky?” He asked, Pietro shaking his head. “No, you.” He said simply, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. Clint couldn’t help but chuckle, nodding at him. “Alright, kid.” He mumbled, digging his wallet out of his pocket. “Hold your sister’s hand, brat.” He told him, relieved as Pietro listened to that order. The chocolate was paid for without another word from the speedy twin, who was given the bag to carry.
Clint finally managed to drag the twins away from the chocolate, resuming the walk towards the supermarket. “What does Laura want from the supermarket?” Wanda asked, looking up at Clint. “Just some supplies for dinner, she gave me a list.” Clint told her, smiling a bit down at the obedient Maximoff. “Can we have hamburgers?” She asked, Clint quirking an eyebrow at the request. “I don’t think so, they’re not on the list.” “What are we having?” She asked, Clint digging the list out of his pocket to have a look. “Mm… Looks like something with chicken.” He told her, looking down at the five year old as she frowned. “What is it, Wanda?” “I don’t like chicken.” Clint paused. This could be a problem in the making. “Why don’t you like chicken?” He asked cautiously. “Because it’s not hamburgers.” She answered simply. No, of course it wasn’t. Clint took a deep breath, trying to think of how to defuse the situation. “Well… What if we have chicken burgers?” “Chicken burgers?” Wanda repeated, Clint nodding. “Chicken burgers.” He repeated, watching her as she scrunched up her face, thinking about this. “Okay.” She said finally with a firm nod. Clint let out a sigh of relief. Thank god.
Just as Clint thought he was going to have an easy trip through the rest of the mall – the twins spotted the toy store. Specifically, Wanda spotted the toy store. With a gasp, she dropped Clint’s hand and ran to the window, eyes as wide as dinner plates as she stared at the toys – joined within a second by her brother. “Can we go inside?!” Wanda asked Clint, grinning brightly up at him. “Wanda, we need to get to the supermarket.” “But we won’t be long!” She whined. Clint put his hand to his forehead, starting to see more similarities between the Maximoff twins than ever before. “Alright, five minutes.” He told her, jumping as Pietro grabbed his sister and sped them into the toy store. “No powers!” He called after them, quickly following them inside – but it was too late, they were already lost in the crowd of other children and parents. Fuck. Laura was going to kill him.
It didn’t take Clint long to find them – thank god – finding the Avengers section with ease, and along with it – the twins. “Come on Wanda, send me up there!” Pietro was whining, staring up at the highest shelf. “No! You’re too heavy!” “I am not!” “Are too!” “Am not!” “Are too!” “Enough.” Clint ordered as he walked over, looking at the shelf – which he could actually reach. “You’re not buying a toy, Pietro.” “Why not?!” “Because you just bought chocolate.” “But that was before I saw that!” He said, pointing at the shelf. Clint looked at it again, knowing the instant he did which toy Pietro was pointing at: Vision. Like most kids toys, it didn’t actually look much like Vision, but like most kids: Pietro did not care. “Kid, you already have the chocolate, you can’t have the toy.” “But-” “No. Let’s get out of here.” Clint said, taking Pietro’s hand before the kid could run off again. “Wanda, lets…”Clint started, pausing as he looked around. “Where’s your sister?” He asked Pietro, looking down at the boy, who shrugged. “I dunno!” Laura was going to kill him. “Wanda!” Clint called, starting to move around the store, looking for the (supposedly more obedient) twin. “There!” Pietro called, tugging Clint over to the tower of toys. “Pietro!” Wanda called with a grin, bouncing as she pointed towards the top. “Look!” She said, grinning brightly. Clint and Pietro looked up to the top – and Clint’s heart sank. No. No no no. Child sized Avengers teddy bears. One for every team member – including the twins. But that wasn’t the problem, it was the Vision one, squeezed between an Iron Man bear and a Quicksilver one (ironic, Clint thought). “Wanda, we have to go.” Clint told her, trying to avoid what he knew was coming. “Not yet!” Wanda told him, grinning as she raised her hands. “Wanda, n--” Clint started, but it was too late. The Vision teddy was glowing as red as Wanda’s hands, and before Clint could speak again – the teddy was out of his squished position, and the tower of toys was tumbling down. Wanda froze, eyes wide as she saw the mess she’d made. Pietro was frozen too, mouth dropped open as he stared at it too. “Run!” Pietro shrieked, grabbing Wanda’s hand and racing out of the store – thankfully at a human speed. “Oh, no you don’t!” Clint called after them, sending an apologetic shrug to the stunned shop assistant before he raced after the twins. He leapt in front of them, the twins skidding to a stop when they were blocked. “I will buy you both a teddy, if you stay by the door. Got it?” Clint told them, pointing at each twin in turn. The Maximoff twins nodded silently. Clint let out a huff, shaking his head. If he went grey because of these two, there would be hell to pay when they turned back into adults. He moved back towards the counter, putting his hands on it as he looked at the shop assistant seriously. “I need kiddie leashes.”
Four hours later (yes, four, Clint counted), Clint pulled up outside the Barton farmhouse, letting out a relieved sigh. He leaned his head back against the seat, closing his eyes for a moment. “Alright, everyone out.” He said, opening his eyes and climbing out of the truck – helping the twins out too. “Pietro, you take-” “Laura!” The twins squealed, cutting off Clint as he, once again, tried to get them to listen to him. “Hi guys!” Laura called, laughing as the Maximoff twins latched onto her legs, hugging them tightly. “What is all of this?” She asked with a gasp, noting each twin carrying an oversized teddy bear (Pietro had Vision, Wanda had Captain America), as well as the bag swinging from Pietro’s arm, full of chocolate – and finally, the kiddie leashes. Pietro was wearing a blue one, Wanda was wearing red. “We went to the M&Ms store!” “And the toy store!” “And the supermarket!” the twins told her, bouncing happily as they did. Laura laughed again, stroking their small heads. “Why don’t you go inside and show Lila and Cooper what you got?” Laura suggested, smiling as she watched the twins run inside.
She moved over to the truck, raising an eyebrow as she smirked at Clint. “You were gone for four hours.” “Uh huh.” “I was worried you weren’t coming back…” She teased, smirk widening as Clint scoffed. “Oh, you’re lucky I did.” He shot back, smirking at her. “Those two,” He said, pointing towards the house, “Are the most troublesome duo I have ever met in my entire life. And I’ve met them as adults!” He told her, Laura laughing as she wrapped her arms around his waist. “And yet, I have a feeling they got everything they asked for?” She assumed, Clint opening his mouth to protest, then promptly closing it. Yes, yes they had. “You’re a softie, Barton.” Laura teased, rubbing his sides. “Yeah, well, I was just trying to avoid any tears…” He started, sighing one more time as Laura shook her head. “No, you weren’t, you wanted to spoil them.” She corrected, Clint shrugging slowly. “I don’t know, maybe…” He mumbled, looking at Laura as she smiled at him. “Come on, let’s get the shopping inside…” She said, pulling away and helping him take the bags in.
After dinner, Clint could finally relax. It had been a long day. Lila and Cooper were both playing in their rooms, Nathaniel was asleep, and Laura was getting the twins ready for bed – or so Clint thought. “Clint?” came Pietro’s small voice as the twins peeked into the living room, dressed in their pyjamas. “Mm… Hey guys…” Clint mumbled, shifting so he was sitting up straighter in his armchair. “Shouldn’t you be upstairs?” “We wanted to see you, first…” Wanda told him quietly. “Well, come see me then.” Clint told them, patting his knee and nodding for the twins to come into the living room. They looked at each other before smiling, running over to Clint and climbing onto his knee. “We’re sorry about the mall…” Pietro told him quietly, Wanda nodding in agreement. Clint chuckled, shaking his head “It’s alright, keeps me young…” He mumbled to them. He was about to send them back upstairs, when he really stopped to look at them. These two brats, two kids that had been nothing but a pain in his ass all afternoon – he was actually pretty fond of them. He really was getting soft. “Alright,” He started with a sigh, putting his arms around the twins, “Who wants to hear about the first time I met Thor?” He asked, chuckling as the twins bounced on his knee with a chorus of ‘Me! Me!’ before they snuggled under his arms, looking up at him with bright eyes. “Okay. I was in New Mexico, with Agent Coulson, and it was raining…”
As the story came to a close, Clint looked down at the sleeping twins in his arms, smiling fondly. Yeah, these kids weren’t so bad after all.
Hey there! I have a ASOIAF question and you were the first person I could think to ask. :) I've been thinking about writing Maron Martell/Daenerys I and some things are off in my head. Was Daemon Blackfyre her half brother? And who was Dany I and Daeron The Good's father?
Daenerys Martell and Daemon Blackfyre were half-siblings, yes - their father, and Daeron’s, was Aegon IV, the Unworthy.
Daenerys and Daeron were full siblings - nineteen years apart, true, but both children of Aegon IV and Naerys (although there were unproven claims that Daeron, at least, was fathered by Aemon the Dragonknight). Daemon was Aegon’s son by his cousin, Daena the Defiant, sister of Baelor the Blessed.
