So I'm watching Them (2021) and I don't know how I feel about the backstory of the man with the black hat... 'cause it feels like "oh the devil tricked him so then he became racist" and it feels like you're giving him a bit of an excuse??? It's simplifying and shifts the blame??? Like it's not bigotry or willful ignorance or just being a despicable human, no, it's the devil

I might be missing something, or misinterpreted something

'cause I also thought it meant that there was nothing more vile so the only explaination is demons but it's still a bit off

Does anyone know the interpretation/explaination?
