My first time performing at SXSW was in 2012. Every artist should have a goal of attending and performing there if the opportunity comes along. We ended up performing with beanie sigel and getting an exclusive interview with havoc of mobb deep all within a few hours of each other.
TheMeccaofRhymes Exclusive: BANNED Spotlight Artist ALEISHA TUNSTALL
Peace, Everyone! For my first B.A.N.N.E.D. spotlight artist of 2017 I decided to go inside the mind of a very inspiring woman in art and life. As the first woman feature of this segment, I proudly introduce Aleisha Tunstall. I found Aleisha through social media and I noticed that her style was very unique. I researched a little about her and I decided to reach out to find out more about her. Especially with her being a self taught artist, who decided to follow her passion to becoming an artist in Jaunuary 2015. "I have always had belief in myself and a healthy amount of confidence. When I decided to become an Artist, I knew that I could find a way to teach myself how to be a great painter. So initially, my ambition surpassed my talent. I just kept painting and painting. When I saw the continuous progress I was making, I knew I would be okay." So, what sets her apart from other artist, you may ask. She's very business and financial savvy " I'm very business savvy. As artists, we must take on various roles as creators, entrepreneurs, and marketers. We must take control over our careers. After we create our work, we must figure out how to share it with the public. We must manage your social media platforms, update our websites, participate in shows, and attend networking events. We also must be financially savvy, and take on the role as salesmen. I read somewhere that being a Professional Artist is 20% of the time creating art and 80% of the time promoting art. So, I spend a lot of time making sure I take care of all the behind-the-scenes work to make sure as many people are exposed to my art as possible." While some artist may have 1 or 2 favorite paintings they may have done, Aleisha feels that every new painting she does becomes her favorite painting! "I learn so much from each painting that I do. When I look at my new work, I see tremendous growth. Then I look at my previous pieces, and think to myself "I mean that was good, but this new piece is great!" What are your inspirations and what motivates you? "I am most sure of myself when I am painting. It makes me feel powerful. The feeling that I get after finishing a piece is addicting. It drives me to create more art." Aleisha has worked very hard to accomplish her goals and become an artist. Sometimes, like everyone in life, we may have to fight through a few challenges. I asked her, what were some of the challenges that she's had to face on her path. "Making art is cool, but as an artist, you also must pay the bills. So, I have worked full-time, attended school, and worked as a full-time artist all at the same time. When you first start out, the money isn't flowing in as fast as you hope it would. A lot of times you must do free work for exposure and experience. But again, you still must pay your bills and the cost of your art supplies. It can be tough at times. But eventually people notice your work, and see the time you put in it. That's when the commissions and opportunities start rolling in." Finally, what would you like to accomplish with your artwork? "My goal is to inspire other people to follow their dreams and pursue their own passions in life. My art journey literally started with a choice. I decided to become an artist, and then I put in the work. It's as simple as it sounds." Find Aleisha Tunstall on Instagram @aleisha_art and through her website at www.AleishaArt.com to view her portfolio of artwork and show your generosity to support this talented artist!

TheMeccaofRhymes Exclusive: BANNED Spotlight Artist STAIN
My next Spotlight artist has been visualizing some of the dopest, most creative works of art for some time now. I may not be 100% correct in saying this but from my own eyes, alot of the concepts I see now from alot of artist I saw my man STAIN doing first! I've known STAIN through social media for a few years now through the sneaker message boards, customizing sneakers and other clothing. The first time I noticed his illustration skills, were from a Simpsons themed character he designed many years ago but who knew that was only scratching the surface of how ill his art could really be! I asked STAIN a few questions about his artwork and what he planned to accomplish in the near future. My first question was, when did you realize you were talented in the arts? First I want to thank you for recognizing my art and for the opportunity on including me on your site. You are the first person to interview me about my art I really appreciate this. Also to be in the same vincinty as a great artist such as Miya Bailey, it's a real honor. I realized I was talented in the arts in middle school. I've noticed, being able to convey my vision onto paper became easier and compared to my classmates I always felt as though I was a level above. You have classmates always asking you to draw their name or when the teacher gives out drawing competitions or assignments dealing with anything creative and my fellow classmates would turn there heads to me made me realize, yea, God gifted me with talent. How did you get the name STAIN? The name STAIN I want to say '07-'08 Around that time customing kicks and clothes were real popular and in my hometown I was the best one at that job. I painted on clothes and used to accidently leave some paint mark where it wasnt supposed to be. Customers would love the work, but still would point out the mishaps. So I thought, I needed a name that's me and will stick. Til this day, I still have people call me by that name. Actually, most have no clue what my real name is. I like it that way lol. So, what sets him apart from other artist? What sets me apart from other artist is I'm real big on nostalgia and everything classic. I feel like my mind is filled up with so much useless knowledge and the love for music and anything popular I like to share that in my art. My work is genuine and I'm not an opportunist always looking to captivate on recent events. I'm with the times, but again I'm not with the times. Also I'm much more than a Hey Arnold pop artist. I'm also great at oil painting, mixed media so much more. You all will soon see. Who/What are your inspirations and what motivates you? SAMO..Picasso big fan of Salvador Dali's surrealism. Kaws one of my favorites because of his sheer perfectionism. I pride myself on that too. Things that inspire me are the earth, people, animals. The moon stars. The universe. I'm inspired by everything, new and old. Blaxploitation films. Have you seen the 70's movie poster artwork? Crazy! Has any of your celebrity consigns on your art ever made you feel like "I made it" or does it even have an impact on you at all? Curren$y, Ghostface Killah, Big Daddy Kane have artwork of mine in their possession. My artwork has been recognized by Pusha T, Def Jam, Motown records, Jesse Boykins iii, Genius, Michael K Williams and many more to come. Celeb cosigns are a great look because these are people that I am a big fan of. It's an honor, but I don't want them to define me. I don't feel like I've made it yet because it's still so much I want to do. I still have a day job, I still have so many ideas. So many people to touch. Van Gogh painted almost 1000 pieces of artwork. I have a long way to go. lol What would you like to accomplish with your art? Just looking to inspire. I want to spark the thoughts of the viewer. Make them think, take them back to a time in their life, good or bad memories. As long as I get them there. Lastly, Where can people purchase your artwork and shout out any socials/events coming up. Stainislike.com is my personal website featuring my artwork and more currently under construction for a re-launch. I also have two more websites releasing in November artrhyme.com which will focus on my art museum travels and music concerts, thebluelove.com inspired by Pablo's blue period focuses on art and design. Lastly, I will be holding my first art show top of 2017 it's going to be crazy.
