TheMeccaofRhymes Exclusive: BANNED Spotlight Artist STAIN
My next Spotlight artist has been visualizing some of the dopest, most creative works of art for some time now. I may not be 100% correct in saying this but from my own eyes, alot of the concepts I see now from alot of artist I saw my man STAIN doing first! I've known STAIN through social media for a few years now through the sneaker message boards, customizing sneakers and other clothing. The first time I noticed his illustration skills, were from a Simpsons themed character he designed many years ago but who knew that was only scratching the surface of how ill his art could really be! I asked STAIN a few questions about his artwork and what he planned to accomplish in the near future. My first question was, when did you realize you were talented in the arts? First I want to thank you for recognizing my art and for the opportunity on including me on your site. You are the first person to interview me about my art I really appreciate this. Also to be in the same vincinty as a great artist such as Miya Bailey, it's a real honor. I realized I was talented in the arts in middle school. I've noticed, being able to convey my vision onto paper became easier and compared to my classmates I always felt as though I was a level above. You have classmates always asking you to draw their name or when the teacher gives out drawing competitions or assignments dealing with anything creative and my fellow classmates would turn there heads to me made me realize, yea, God gifted me with talent. How did you get the name STAIN? The name STAIN I want to say '07-'08 Around that time customing kicks and clothes were real popular and in my hometown I was the best one at that job. I painted on clothes and used to accidently leave some paint mark where it wasnt supposed to be. Customers would love the work, but still would point out the mishaps. So I thought, I needed a name that's me and will stick. Til this day, I still have people call me by that name. Actually, most have no clue what my real name is. I like it that way lol. So, what sets him apart from other artist? What sets me apart from other artist is I'm real big on nostalgia and everything classic. I feel like my mind is filled up with so much useless knowledge and the love for music and anything popular I like to share that in my art. My work is genuine and I'm not an opportunist always looking to captivate on recent events. I'm with the times, but again I'm not with the times. Also I'm much more than a Hey Arnold pop artist. I'm also great at oil painting, mixed media so much more. You all will soon see. Who/What are your inspirations and what motivates you? SAMO..Picasso big fan of Salvador Dali's surrealism. Kaws one of my favorites because of his sheer perfectionism. I pride myself on that too. Things that inspire me are the earth, people, animals. The moon stars. The universe. I'm inspired by everything, new and old. Blaxploitation films. Have you seen the 70's movie poster artwork? Crazy! Has any of your celebrity consigns on your art ever made you feel like "I made it" or does it even have an impact on you at all? Curren$y, Ghostface Killah, Big Daddy Kane have artwork of mine in their possession. My artwork has been recognized by Pusha T, Def Jam, Motown records, Jesse Boykins iii, Genius, Michael K Williams and many more to come. Celeb cosigns are a great look because these are people that I am a big fan of. It's an honor, but I don't want them to define me. I don't feel like I've made it yet because it's still so much I want to do. I still have a day job, I still have so many ideas. So many people to touch. Van Gogh painted almost 1000 pieces of artwork. I have a long way to go. lol What would you like to accomplish with your art? Just looking to inspire. I want to spark the thoughts of the viewer. Make them think, take them back to a time in their life, good or bad memories. As long as I get them there. Lastly, Where can people purchase your artwork and shout out any socials/events coming up. Stainislike.com is my personal website featuring my artwork and more currently under construction for a re-launch. I also have two more websites releasing in November artrhyme.com which will focus on my art museum travels and music concerts, thebluelove.com inspired by Pablo's blue period focuses on art and design. Lastly, I will be holding my first art show top of 2017 it's going to be crazy.
