But because Stephenie Meyer is Stephenie Meyer, he managed to make it as gross as possible, by making it a one-way connection, by having grown adults imprinting on children, by that yikesy implication that even if the object of an imprinting doesn’t reciprocate the feelings, they still usually end up giving in because it’s just so hard to keep saying no to that kind of devotion. Didn't Charlie also not only fail to defend Bella when he learned Jacob had forced a kiss on her, but even applauded Jacob for doing it? In fairness, I seem to recall that he later was like "I was glad Jake made a move, but you shouldn't have to let a boy kiss you if you don't want, so I'm gonna teach you to throw a punch," so I guess he redeems himself a little, but still. My outrage was, and still is, so palpable. Bella really had no one who put her first, except Edward, and he only SEEMED to.
