Neil has probably developed so much patience just from eating meals with Andrew alone. We know Andrew likes to ‘play’ with his food: take it apart and eat little bit by little bit. Imagine he’s like that with everything; has to take his time. Sandwiches? He rips apart and then eats each ingredient one by one. Pasta dishes? A noodle at a time. It drives the rest of the team crazy but not Neil. He just leans his head in his hand and watches Andrew eat, sometimes shaking his head on the rare chance that Andrew offers him a bite. Neil is full off of his own food as well as his fondness for this man who is hard to know but even harder to forget once you do.

thinking about Robin and Nancy getting together in college and seeing each other all the time and everything being so perfect

but then Nancy starts getting busier with work, following bigger and bigger stories. And Robin wants to study abroad, and to keep traveling beyond that maybe, and suddenly seeing each other nearly every weekend turns to hopefully seeing each other more than once a month and Nancy is sitting there watching Robin pack her bags and thinking about how she can’t do this again. She can’t watch the person she loves pack up their entire life and leave her behind, and she absolutely cannot stand the thought of the tense, silent distance she had with Jonathan building up between her and Robin

So she calls it off. And they’re both heartbroken about it. And Robin leaves, and Nancy stays, and life goes on

Except they were best friends before they were lovers, and Robin is already good at keeping in touch with Steve. The first phone call to Boston is impulsive. Robin can’t sleep, and she’s missing home, and it’s late enough in the states she knows Nance is probably the only one still up. To both their surprise, it isn’t an agonizingly awkward conversation. It isn’t even a particularly painful one.

So Robin calls from time to time. And Nancy writes letters, late at night when she can’t sleep bit she can’t focus on work, either. And she sends Robin her articles, and Robin sends her postcards, and it’s a little funny because soon enough they’re talking on the phone between every letter sent, but they keep sending them anyway.

And though the distance between them aches it never feels anything like it did with Jonathan. Nancy tells Robin she made a mistake, and Robin says maybe she didn’t, maybe it’s a good thing that they know, now, they can do this even when they’re apart

They get back together while Robin’s still half a world away, and they stay that way happily through all the months of traveling for work, or for school, or just for fun, and for all the years of living together in between
