The woman bends at his feet and her fingers extend to curve into the slow spill of blood that pools at his shoes and he blinks, his head craning to the left as confusion glosses over his eyes.

Someone who was not terrified…how interesting.

He would do no harm to children. He would do no harm to any child, to an orphan, to those who saw fit to clutch innocent things to their breast and break them.

He would destroy any who dared.

As for why this man was killed…well…

“It is no intrusion, miss,” he said, dipping his head low as if bowing to her. “He called me a name that has trailed after me since I was very young and though I warned him not once, not twice, but five times…well. Something had to be done.”

Oswald blinks and his lip curls over his teeth that feel too sharp and large in his mouth as he backs away from the body, his fingers curling at his sides as he remembers the weight of the knife in his hands, the burden of metal by the palm of his hand...

“Imagine if you will…you are given a nickname when you are very young, six maybe. It follows you everywhere you go, this demeaning and dehumanizing title…and finally, finally, you just snap.” And he snaps his fingers, his index finger pointing to the skies.

“This…unfortunate ingrate did just that. I have a name, and those who use anything other than that name shall end up like him.”

He did not mean that as a threat towards her, just towards any who were listening, all those who sneered, jeered, pointed and mocked and laughed and ATTESTED…
