Chevelle’s “The North Corridor” Album Review:
On July 8, 2016, Chevelle released their 8th studio album by the title “The North Corridor”. It is interesting to see what Chevelle did in this album because when a band starts to get to their 8th album you start to wonder, what more can they do and how can they top all of their other records. With “The North Corridor”, Chevelle was able to successfully surpass expectations and give something new and fresh to their long time fans and new fans. The album starts with the song “Door To Door Cannibals” which really does a good job of preparing the listener for what is about to come. In this particular Chevelle album, we get more energy, more feelings and more vibes involved with how songs sound. Although some might criticize them for having the same foundation present in many of their songs that foundation has become a special and unique trait in Chevelle’s music that fans continue to look for in their albums. It is interesting to hear the mix of Chevelle’s normal foundation and them going a bit out of the box on “The North Corridor”. In songs like “Last Days” we get the unmistakable Pete Loeffler fender guitar sound with steady drums, pleasing screams, and soft verses which really make a great song with ups and downs in the music. In songs like “Enemies” and “Rivers” we can hear a different guitar sound and faster drumming by Sam Loeffler, which calls for a faster tempo that really makes you able to jump and mosh during the song. Also, throughout the album, we feel more emotions as to how Pete Loeffler sings and how the band plays their instruments. “Punchline” is a song where we get that melancholic feeling as opposed to “Young Wicked” where we sort of get an angry feeling which calls for double pedal, loud crashes, loud bass and heavy riffs. Overall Chevelle did a great job introducing us to a different side of them while still remaining with their trademark sound in “The North Corridor”. If you like old school Chevelle this is an album for you and, if you like more energetic and fast tempo rock music I do recommend you listen to this album because we get a more energetic and heavy Chevelle on this record. Support the artist by buying their music and seeing them live on tour.
