hey jumblr quick question: so like let's say you have a time machine, right, and it's friday afternoon, and you use the time machine to travel back in time to a monday in 1802, or travel forward to a monday in 2051.
halachically valid or not? from the perspective of your own timeline, you just skipped shabbos, but from the perspective of where you are, it's just monday.
I’m trying to write a novel and I need a little help. One of my characters is Jewish (currently reform, but I’m still in the early beta days so I’d appreciate other input too!) and I’m curious—how would a Jewish person, assuming they had no contact with Earth, determine what’s acceptable to eat when stranded on an alien planet? Would you stick to plants for safety or work on classifying animal products, and so on?

An interesting question was posed to me, would a Torah scroll made from (Star Trek style) replicated materials still be kosher?
so I know that jumblr loves rehashing the debates about Space Judaism but I would also like to see more debates about Fantasy Judaism that don't revolve around harry potter.
like can a sentient dragon convert to judaism? How do immortal elves fit into our religious framework, and can they convert to judaism? Can wands be made out of fruit trees? How do fantasy prophecies align with our "no new prophets" rule?
what if deadpool was an adult convert? and decided to get a brit milah???
I didn't think of that when I answered the ask! I would think that in that case he'd get the brit milah and it would be more symbolic than anything else, since it would be assumed that it would heal itself the next time that his crotch gets a hole blasted through it or whatnot
Like some people have health issues and stuff that complicate the brit milah and in some cases mean that they can't get one, so I don't see why it wouldn't be the same here. I don't think he'd have to keep getting them over and over again
That being said though... it would make for some uproariously funny comedy

i’m writing a series where instead of 365/366 days per year the world i created has 377 calendar days. however one of my characters is jewish and celebrates important jewish holidays with their family and while it may not show up in text is there any way to determine what day a holiday will happen with a completely different calendar and do so respectfully? should i do an approximation or scrap the idea and be less specific about the date? thanks in advance!
Mod here. One question I have that may help respondents is whether this is whether the planet where your character lives has a different number of days than the planet where Judaism originated in your world, or whether they are on the same planet.

I gotta admit, I have no idea what that is and I had to google it. Are you referring to the genre of anime where the protagonist gets transported to another world/dimension/universe?
Because yeah that would create some really interesting halachic complications, I'd say it's pretty aligned with the debates surrounding Space Judaism actually

my answer is yes he can because the brit milah would have happened when he was a baby and therefore his body would regenerate itself with the brit milah intact, as it always reverts back to the way it was when he first got the ability
