How would an extremely advanced species get a power source for their advanced machinery(advanced compared to us now, regular stuff for them)
Okay so this is a bit of a stretch but there’s actually an example of this in real life sort of!!
So there’s this arctic lake buried deep underground where no sunlight reaches
And there are also some plants down there from like a longggg time ago like the last Age
How have they survived without sunlight photosynthesis for so many years? They’ve been able to adapt to absorb nutrients and minerals from the water down there that they’d usually need to get from the sun!!
So not exactly machinery but I still think this is a really cool fun fact
.
On the inverse, I actually think a hyperadvanced sentient species would have a relatively low population (would prevent political instability and harbour the conditions for technological and scientific advancement), and as such would have a lot of space on their planet for ✨ renewable energy ✨ sources like solar panels, wind turbines, etc, which is def what I think they’d use since those sources won’t run out in the foreseeable future and a super technologically and scientifically advanced species would probably be cautious about the future
Either that or nuclear, which is way more energy efficient than renewable energy sources and would likely be needed for super futuristic tech, but also potentially more dangerous
Or they’d come up with something totally new!! All this is me waxing theoretical except the arctic plant stuff which is true
'this time we fall in love at first sight.'
this time it's both of us, that is. you know me.
you're in that cupcake suit and i sip on some icy water. it's just cold enough without hurting my sensitive gums. i look like a hollywood starlet, but nobody misgenders me. you see me when you go to get a pitiful drink of boredom and you nearly double-take.
you say, isn't this party kinda a bummer? and i agree.
you ask me, why i'm here at such a serious party?
and i say, it's for my dad and that i tagged along.
nodding, you tell me that you're out of place too since you do something only tangentially related to the theme of the party but it's general business related so you felt obligated to come.
i ask if you want to hang out since we're both bored.
it's, like, a serious, well-lit adult party. it's almost more of clean-cut, movie stereotype of what real life balls were like. it's weirdly, anachronistically archaic in nature despite being modern day. we're modern. it's whatever.
you agree and ask me about my dad.
he does this.
wow! what do you do?
i do books.
i do something else.
we laugh about how awkward i am, and, yes, heaven help me, i LOVE the smiths.
suddenly i say, i know you; i walked with you once upon a dream.
i think so, too. you smile. by the way, i'm divorced like your dad so everything is, like, so chill.
we go dance and it's very romantic, very disco. i think too hard about gimme more by britney spears and almost slam into you. you laugh in your hearty way and i can't help but laugh along.
we go back somewhere more secluded and you ask if you can kiss me?
i open my mouth to speak but just nod like a little kid instead.
when our lips touch, it's like in enchanted when they go back and forth between the animated world andalasia and real life new york, but i'm not sure which one i'm in right now. i think i keep flipping back and forth between the two, because this is a fairytale dream come true and, simultaneously, somehow you're as real as the ground beneath my feet. your lips are on mine. your arms are around me. i kiss you harder and know you're real.
we fuck and it changes everything even more. it's perfect. i don't know how you managed to take my virginity in these tights, but i'm not complaining one bit.
what kind of party even is this, really?
we go back and chat. when my dad finally catches up with me for a moment, i tell him it's fine, that we don't have to leave right now. go do whatever. so my dad walks off again.
you rest your hand on my lower back, and, with you, it feels right. it doesn't make my head feel electric-blood hot and my stomach feel full of wasps; it's more like bubbles and butterflies and, as i would later learn for real, early morning kisses.
i say, robert desnos had a point about dreams and shadows, but it's also a bit like the wizard of oz on steroids how this party went from black and white to color with you.
you say, wait. that little old man was on steroids? and i laugh.
we stay close together until the night is coming to a close and i have to go home with my dad. it isn't a good idea to go home with you. we both know this.
you and i say our goodbyes in the dark of the garden just outside. we embrace passionately.
you whisper, voice full of husk and wonder, do you believe in love at first sight?
i cling closer to you. i want to believe.
I really enjoy your writing! For the fanfic question thingies lmao, how do you build tension?🥰
Ooooo good question. Depending on the type of situation, I think I go about it one of two ways: If it’s a fast-paced event (say, theoretically, like a mass stranding of a fuck ton of dolphins), I base a lot of it in sentence structure: short sentences and action statements for the most part, until I get into a specific character’s point of view, where I try to show them going into a tailspin. I think seeing their thoughts growing more frantic as the situation intensifies does a lot to show how tension affects the characters in question. If its a slower event or more drawn out over time (say, theoretically, someone under immense pressure trying to deal with it without committing murder), I try to throw little things in- a cold shoulder, “It’s nothing, leave it,” slamming something down- and then focus on how characters notice it. Does the girlfriend see it when the person suddenly starts skipping breakfast? Does the person hear it in their own voice when they shut a mentee’s suggestion down to harshly?
So, I guess the tl;dr is I rely heavily on characters to create tension in a story. Which makes sense- I feel like I am a very character-focused writer as opposed to someone who focuses more on the environment around them.

Is it possible for a figure skater to go into seniors professionally without having competed as a junior? Or is it a requirement to first go through junior competitions before being able to move on to seniors?
Thanks for asking!
First, just to clarify: the skaters in YoI, the skaters you see competing on the Grand Prix/Worlds/Olympics etc, they are NOT professionals! They are technically amateurs. If they are hoping to retain their “eligible” status for the competition circuit, they cannot be professionals.
What you are suggesting is theoretically possible but realistically impractical. There are quite a few reasons why. One thing that you’ve drastically underestimated is the value of competition experience. You can be as relaxed and confident and as you like before a competition, but you will never know how you will react until you are actually standing there at centre ice with the butterflies flying and your knees turning to jelly. And your theoretical skater will be going up against skaters who have been competing all their lives,
Another thing is that the judges probably aren’t going to respond that well to someone who just pops up out of nowhere. Whether we like it or not, there is a degree of reputation scoring that goes on in figure skating, and a skater who just pops out of nowhere isn’t going to go over as well as a skater who has been competing for years and years.
Presumably, you mean that your theoretical skater is going to go compete straight on the GP. Well, that’s actually impossible. First, please see this post about how skaters qualify for the Grand Prix. Second, your theoretical skater could have one hell of a time just getting to Nationals in his own country, let alone earning any assignments out of it!
