Review: The Panda Noodle, Berlin
The Panda Noodle, located at Lausitzer Platz, Kreuzberg is a self-service ramen joint that serves homemade noodles with an authentic asian atmosphere. The place has very colorful decor with lots of innovation given to its menu serving local delicacies with a few Asian-Fusion dishes thrown into the mix, ranging from Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Thai and Viet.
It is indeed a unique looking place with a neon and asian vibe, full of colorful and quirky things such as Asian pop and anime posters, fairy and neon lights stacked up on the wall and the food is also literally to die for! I talked to the lovely owner, Daeng who likes hatching out of a typical Asian dish into something new and is always looking for different recipes and ingredients from different Asian cultures and combines them together. She said everything here is homemade, the recipe for the noodles comes originally from Japan even the noodles are homemade, but many of the side dishes come from Chinese, Thailand, Korean and Vietnamese and you can see the chefs cooking your food in an open kitchen!
In here, you can either choose the regular menu where you can build your own ramen bowl and take your toppings to the next level or the special menu as they always have a special menu which changes every week. For the regular menu, you can choose your broth, noodle, toppings, sauces and extra pickles as they have a wide variety of options for you to choose. You can also just simply go for the basic “Ramen Pandastyle” signature bowl (6,50€), or ask about their current special menu.
We went a little bit crazy with the toppings, we both chose Ramen Pandastyle served with rice, and we tried every toppings they have like Carrots Wasabi Style (1,50€), Spinach with Sesame (2,00€), Cubed Kimchi (2,00€) and Cucumber Quick Pickle (1,50€), Japanese Omelette with Scallions (3,00€) along with Panda Sesame Sauce (1,50€) and Miso Soup (1,50€) sauces, everything we tried was so good and flavorful!
Take a closer look at this yummy Ramen Pandastyle signature bowl served with some type of condiments/toppings on the side. And they also gave us a little portion of Thai Beef Salad served with Sticky Rice and it came out really amazing too!
Every week is also a must visit to The Panda Noodle because they have a special menu which changes every week, some good and yummy stuff that you can't get at the regular menu.
I tried their Szechuan Noodles + Fried Egg (8,00€), Watermelon Noodles (7,50€) and Fresh Watermelon juice (3,50€) from the special menu the other day and everything was so tasty, flavorful and fresh.
The first dish was Watermelon Noodles and is such a perfect dish for the summer, the noodles are chewy and the sauce is the perfect combination of sweet and Korean spicy and the bits of veggies and watermelon are so juicy and refreshing.
And the second dish was Szechuan Noodles and definitely my favorite dish out of three, I really loved the peanutty sauce and fresh veggies in it, the sauce was really highly flavored that I wanna buy it in a jar to take home. The good news I've heard from the lovely owner is, she will add Szechuan Noodles as a regular menu simply because everyone loves it!
The owner, Daeng also has a keen attention to small details, she is keeping an eye on the authenticity and the detailed decoration of the restaurant, everything even the plates are colorful (as authentic Asian people always have such colorful plates when they eat) with a hint of Asian fuse decor accent.
So it’s safe to say that you don't have to go half way around the world to eat like you would eat in Southeast Asia, because The Panda Noodle has it all here.
