˚₊—At that moment it seemed to him that the dead woman darted a mocking look at him and winked her eye. Hermann drew back, missed his footing and crashed headlong to the floor.
The intriguing style of storytelling is this story's strength. It really did utilize it well from the beginning, the middle, up until the end. There's power in something unknown, and Alexander really played these two well.
I also noticed the social commentary here on society, which even more highlights the parts where Hernán and the Countess scene, which, for me, was quite something.
The presentation of human nature as falling into something like greed and obsession in this story is something that I find here quite weak or, somehow, not enough for me to be awestruck.
The same goes with the descent of madness or the supernatural elements here. However, it was fascinating to me as well.
The three, seven, ace, and queen of spades, was also fascinating to me. I really liked the symbolism there.
I've envisioned the vision here, but the presentation to me or the overall construction of the story is lacking.
I'm currently reading #TheQueenOfSpades and Other #Stories by #AlexanderPushkin. The title story is a great one: it's witty, jocular and partly fantastic. I actually love anything related to playing cards, which, I think, is one of the reasons why I love #Marvel's iconic mutant #Gambit and his explosive playing cards. Speaking of which, I've still been reading #TheMarvelBook, I'm going slow as I want to enjoy it as long as possible—Marvel Comics' immense and rich universe is fascinating as well as engrossing. ~ Şu aralar #Pushkin'den #MaçaKızı ve Diğer Hikayeler'i okuyorum. Kitaba adını veren hikaye "Maça Kızı" harika: zekice, esprili and kısmen fantastik. İskambil kağıtlarıyla alakalı her şeyi seviyorum aslında; sanırım Marvel'ın ikonik mutantı Gambit'i ve onun patlayıcı iskâmbil kağıtlarını sevme sebeplerimden biri de bu. Lafı açılmışken, The Marvel Book'u halen okumaktayım, yavaş ilerliyorum çünkü keyfini olabildiğince uzun çıkarmak istiyorum—Marvel çizgi romanlarının uçsuz bucaksız ve zengin evreni sürükleyici olduğu kadar büyüleyici de. ⁂ ⁂ ⁂ «Fiziksel dünyada iki nesne nasıl aynı anda anda aynı yeri kaplayamazsa, insanın düşünce alanında da iki saplantı bir arada var olamaz. Üçlü, yedili ve birli, Hermann'ın hayal gücünde ölü Kontesin imgesini çok geçmeden silmişti...» ("Maça Kızı") ~ «Two fixed ideas cannot coexist in the moral sphere, just as two bodies cannot occupy the same space in the physical world. The three, the seven and the ace soon blotted out the image of the dead Countess from Hermann's imagination...» ("The Queen of Spades") ⁂ ⁂ ⁂ «Gençlerin en bağışlanamaz bulduğu şey cesaret eksikliğidir, ki gençler yürekliliği insan erdemlerinin zirvesi ve tüm ahlaksız davranışların özrü olarak görürler.» (Merhum İvan Petroviç Belkin'in Öyküleri'nden "Atış") ~ «Lack of courage is the thing found least excusable by the young, who usually see valour as the acme of human virtue and an excuse for all manner of vicious behaviour.» ("The Shot" from Tales of the Late Ivan Petrovich Belkin) ⁂ ⁂ ⁂ #QueenOfSpades #Hermann #TheBelkinTales #TheCaptainsDaughter #YüzbaşınınKızı #MarvelBook #MarvelComics #book #books #read #reading #literature #bookstagram #instabook https://www.instagram.com/p/CY_6HzHgL9G/?utm_medium=tumblr
Books I bought/received in September. As you can see, most of them are Russian classics, because I have recently become highly interested in Russian literature. Besides, I actually had Penguin Modern Classics edition of Dubliners, but I gave that as a gift and decided to buy this edition from Oxford World's Classics, from which I have already got Ulysses. ~ #newbooks #AlexanderPushkin #EugeneOnegin #TheQueenOfSpades #MikhailLermontov #AHeroOfOurTime #NikolaiGogol #DeadSouls #IvanGoncharov #Oblomov #AntonChekhov #Stories #JamesJoyce #Dubliners #JaneAusten #PrideAndPrejudice #BernhardSchlink #bookhaul #novel #book #books #bookstagram #bibliophile #reading #read #instabook #literature #bookworm #booknerd #classics https://www.instagram.com/p/CFw6gU0AT5N/?igshid=1iyni4eusoij4
The queen of spades an interactive opera based on the Pushkin novel. Brilliantly staged as you follow the characters around a home turned into a theatre experience. Obviously not a happy Story in the end but a great evening. #littlerickyrecommends #richardmishaandesign #pushkin #thequeenofspades (at Moscow, Russia)
