In The Prom musical, Emma Nolan is marginalized by her community for wanting to dance with the girl she loves. We learned in #DirtyDancing that nobody thrives being placed in a corner.
For Frances "Baby" Houseman, that occurred one summer at Kellerman's. She learned to commit. Let herself be lifted. And she made an adult out of a manchild.
Jane Austen wrote about landed gentry and English country dances. Eleanor Bergstein wrote about the caste system of a Catskills resort and the mambo. The distance between those two sentences is smaller than you think.
Dirty Dancing is basically Pride and Prejudice. Discuss.
As we continue our Prom Season campaign, the latest iconic couple has entered the H₂shO™️ Photo Booth.
Vote Frances & Johnny for Prom Queen & King. 🗳️

Ive been watching 1995 BBC version of pride and prejudice.
And I agree with everybody’s sentiment about the 2005 movie. It’s beautiful, romantic, atmospheric, all of that. But they leave so much out from the book.
The BBC version is great because it has the time to include more. But “more” also means more of everything. I don't like haha more of the mother, more Mr. Collins, more everyone being mean to Mary.
But one thing I noticed that BOTH adaptations miss, and that I absolutely loved in the book, is the buildup to Mr. Darcy’s letter.
In the book, they repeatedly talk about what an incredible writer Darcy is. His letters are described almost like works of art. and there’s this ongoing emphasis on how thoughtful and carefully crafted his letters are.
Neither adaptation really includes that.
So when Elizabeth finally receives the letter in the book, it doesn’t just matter because it clears his name and the big twist. But a letter from Mr Darcy, it feels so special, and I don't think they convey that all too well.
And then the letter itself is beautifully written. That’s part of why it’s so impactful.
I think both adaptations capture the plot importance of the letter, but not really the emotional/literary importance of it.
I really hope in the next adaptation, they include that detail, because I honestly think it’s one of the most special parts of the book.
omg i love them so much... tom/mary always endgame, but these two... JUST WOW! hope u like it xoxo
