I'm preparing to get my first dog! Hopefully a Samoyed or Great Pyrenees if all goes well. I've lived with plenty of dogs but this will be the first one I (and Husbo) are solely responsible for.

i would like to mention that SLB also scratched a v particular itch i was having, so i am v grateful you did that

(how would you define the nature of the itch, for you? I'm having a hard time articulating what i got from SLB precisely and if i could word it better it might be easier to write 20k more of it)

for me, it was the combination of intensive omegaverse worldbuilding and queer relationships within an omegaverse context.

it physically pains me to make either of the striders anything other than queer as all fuck, and the nature of omegaverse worlds is such that alpha/omega pairings are seen as "normal" even if they aren't "straight" by the standards of our world. and yet, most homestuck omegaverse au fic has an alpha/omega pairing as the main pairing.

i wanted to make SURE that dirk's interest in jake in particular would read as queer in their society's context, so i did some worldbuilding to make it so. i like exploring the idea of what makes something "queer," especially in non-human societies.

(this is also why Karkat is non-quad-romantic in SLB. sure, it's also just a great headcanon with some decent textual evidence, but i do love me some queer angst.)

also, just. whumping dave so INCREDIBLY hard specifically so i can give him comfort in the form of his new-found family.

also-also, i've had the climactic scene (not yet published) for SLB rattling around in my head since 2016 or 2017-ish. i have literally told this scene to myself as a bedtime story more times than i can count. at some point i HAVE to get it off my chest, y'know? so i wrote 150k+ words of setup for it lol.

Asking for a friend (the friend is me) (also pls know that I'm imagining dirk and Dave having the rooftop convo in this au and going feral about it, but I wouldn't write that without explicit permission as I imagine that's one of the bits you would feel v strongly about)

i'm too ace for this question lmao. Karkat, Kanaya, and Rose. I'm sticking to that. Karkat is (to me) the perfect reclamation of what i like about masculinity. Kanaya is a lesbian alien vampire with a chainsaw who is one of the funniest fucking people in the story. And Rose once snapped and turned into an eldritch witch demigod. /nods

Would you care to rate the five hottest homestuck characters, canon wise? (We all know who's first place but I am curious to your ratings otherwise)

i have been frowning at this question all day bc i can tell you who is the most desired in the story?

Jake - is the canonically hottest, even people who aren't into him acknowledge that he's hot, it is his gift, it is his curse

Karkat - everyone made a pass at him lmao

Meenah - I think the next is Meenah? a lot of people express interest or had past stuff with her. she's cute i guess but Porrim's the hottest dancestor in my heart.

(right now you should imagine the sound of a computer fan kicking on as i assess my databases)

The rest are kind of all along the same baseline, I think. Everyone else had about the same-ish amount of romantic attention from people. Those three are outliers, tbh.

I keep wanting to say Rose, but Rose was flirtatious to other people, and it's unclear how much it was returned. A lot of people get jealous/frustrated at Dave for being a Cool Kid, but there's not a lot of people actually hitting on him. So yeah, it's a top three, not five.

Was rereading twycc and wanted to share the mental image of Dirk carrying his next clutch and grumpily trying to work while everyone is telling him to go the fuck to sleep. Jake hanging the hammock in a strategic location to get Dirk to get some rest. Roxy asking Dirk if he wants all future frogbabies to grow up and be workaholics.

Also I'm incredibly enamored with the mental image of a frogmer equivalent of a five year old. The anime eyes are real. Everyone but Jake is awwww.

Dirk and Jake absolutely know how frogboy reproduction now works and how to avoid it but they will either forget in the heat of a moment or just go "eh why not"
