Another thing, why can people never suspend their disbelief for romances, i know this is a problem with most of fiction, but romances specifically face this problem all the time, people are shocked the guy who is meant to be the bad boy archetype is breaking the law?? then also are shocked the billionaire uses her wealth to not face consequences, in a series that is a wish fulfillment about inheriting billions??? yes you can analyse whether this is a good thing to perpetuate (the classic marxist reading of manfield park as an example) however that requires you to be aware of the purposes of characters and plots. A lot of stories are wish fulfillments, especially romances, yeah twilight is a bit toxic, it was written for teenagers, yeah billionaires falling in love with girls who are waitresses is unrealistic, this is fiction, then we can discuss what the message the author was unintentionally adding, but that doesn't exist unless we stop treating these characters like real people, and also stop pretending authors just write stuff for the fun of it, without a deeper purpose.
