Brought to my attention by a fellow Trekkie, I was shown an excerpt from the original script of “The City on the Edge of Forever”, so I had to finally open my special artefact to bear witness to something mandatory. The images above are from thus.
Though there is not enough as yet for me to express my everything about any of this in the now, I will instead remark upon just one line - or two.
In the script, Spock said to Kirk as follows:
“On my world the nights are very long. The sound of the silver birds against the sky is very sweet. My people know there is always time enough for everything. You could come with me for a rest. Your would feel comfortable there. “
From television script to official novelisation, it is to go not without note -
Spock goes from tentative suggestion
to the gentlest decree.
From first officer to captain, to a two least separable-
For he will go.
With him, he will.
