There was something special about Steve Harrington. It was more than just the charm he always seemed to exude, or the ridiculously happy smile he threw your way. It was how he loved. He gave it all, every bit of him exposed for the world to see, never once expecting anything more than love in return. But what he didn't know is that we collect pieces of everyone we've encountered along the way. Memories, habits, phrases. Steve Harrington didn't know it, but he was a mosaic of everyone he's ever loved.

That, my lovely Rowan, is how I perceive you too. This is just a small something for your birthday (so sorry that I finished it so late, please forgive me). Here's to another year around the sun!! Much love💓

You went through your list again and checked if you packed everything you needed. Once you made sure of it, you zipped the small traveling suitcase 

You left your suitcase and your room to look around the school before you all leave. 

The usually nosy hallways now echoed your footsteps. No chattering, no speedsters running up and down the stairs, no kids trying to perfect their powers and ending up blowing up something… No, the school was silent as a grave. 

You thought for a minute if the person you are looking for was in their room or in their office.

You shook your head with a small laugh, of course he was in his office, 2 days before Christmas and he was still probably working. 

Reaching the said office you knocked on the slightly opened door. 

"Hello, can I come in?" 

"Oh yes, of course, please." you saw through the small crack that he waved his hand around, like he does while teaching, gesturing for you to get in. So you did. 

Charles leaned over his desk, scribbling something. 

"Am I interrupting, Prof?" you ask stepping closer. 

"Interrupting? Oh no dear, you never could. Just finishing up some work before I say my goodbyes to you all." 

"Raven's already in the hangar with Hank getting the plane ready, and I am 80 percent sure that the kids are with them beca- wait. Goodbyes? Why would you say goodbye, you are coming too."

"No, I'm staying behind, someone has to." he says, finally looking up from his paper and offering you a smile that made your heart sink.

"So.. You are saying that you are, staying here. All alone. For the holiday season." you whispered. 

You were so excited to spend the holiday with Charles and the others. 

Every year there were a few students that couldn't travel home for the holidays or just simply didn't have anywhere else to go, so this year Raven had the idea to take them up to the secret hideout in the mountains. The kids, and honestly you too, loved tge idea of spending Christmas with loads of snow around. But  you knew the fact that Charles would stay behind wouldn't leave you to enjoy your trip at all. 

"There's no way I'm letting you spend Christmas alone." you say determined.

"Y/N it is all right, you don't-"

"Yeah I do, you just.. Don't deserve to be alone. You spend all year, helping and staying strong and positive for these young mutants, you give so much.. It's only fair if you get something too." 

Charles looks at you, eyeing you up and down. 

"And what do I get, darling? You?" he asks clearly knowing what this does to you. You feel your face heating up as you jump to explaining. 

"No, it's not- I meant that I am staying here with you, so you don't have to celebrate Christmas alone." 

"Uhum." he hums with a smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "Wouldn't Raven miss you?" 

"They have enough adults without me, it'll be fine." 

"Thank you, y/n. I truly appreciate it." 

"It's nothing, Charles. I better tell Raven, I.. I'll be back." you said walking towards the door. 

"Can't wait." you heard Charles as you stepped outside, although you weren’t sure if he spoke to you via his telepathic abilities or if he actually said the words out loud. 

Little did you know all was going according to Raven's plan. She knew Charles wouldn't want to leave the mansion unsupervised, but she also had a feeling that you wouldn't want him to stay alone. And hopefully the two of you would work out your obvious feelings for each other.

Darling Rowan, I feel truly privileged to have you as my mutual, and dare I say my friend, you are an amazing and kind person. I really hope your day goes incredibly well, that you will get to enjoy every second of it because this day is about you and you only, I wish you the bestest birthday! Love you 💗

spending your birthday with Jesper would include...

he set aside an amount of money moths ago so he could buy you a present

but now he can't find it anywhere, where could it go? did someone stole it? did he gamble it away?

he is panicking™

and instead of just asking for help from the other crows, he goes out the get some money by himself

he is so determined to get you a gift that he completely forgets about.. well you

you get worried because you haven't seen him all day, and it's not like hik to miss your birthday so you go out and search for him

you find him just getting kicked out of a casino

"Jesper what-"

he grabs your hand and starts springing

"Don't look back, just run!"

you do look back abd see a few angry people running after you with weapons drawn

"WHAT IS GOING ON?"

"I'll explain everything but not now!"

you end up running through the busy streets of Katterdam and you only stop after what feel like ages

you climbed up to a tall rooftop and now you are both trying to catch your breath

"So-" you stand up to look at him "Care to explain?"

"I'm so sorry, darling, I- I wanted to buy you something nice and beautiful, just like you by the way, but I didn't have the money and I thought I could get some by gambling but apparently I played with the wrong people and- I'm sorry I ruined your birthday. "

he looks like a puppy who just chewed all your shoes but looks really guilty about it

"Jes.. You really don't need to get me anything. Just having you is a gift. Thank you for doing all this for me but you really don't have to get in trouble to make me happy."

he pulls you closer and you look as the clouds starts to move around the sky, leaving a little room for the sun to shine through

"this is nice" you say laying your head on his chest, only to hit it in something hard

"Oof. What's that?"

Jesper taps his chest where you layed your head, he reaches into his inside pocket and pulls out a small box

"Oh this! This is just your prese- oh. Oooh. So this is where the money went! I already bought it for you! I'm a genius."

he kisses your cheek with a hige grin

"here, here, open it!!"

you pull out two identical necklaces

"Yeah, this one is yours, and this one's mine. Look we are matching!"

"You're such an idiot, thank you. I love it."

spending your birthday with jaskier would include...

you slept in a tavern the day before so he greeted you with a breakfast in bed

he didn't necessarily leave much time for you to eat tho, he started to rush you to dress up and get on the road

which was confusing but you went along

you got on your horses and rode for a few hours until you arrived to a flowery spot just outside a small town

you gasped upon seeing it because the clearing was full of people, with your close family members, friends

you turned to Jaskier and he only answered with a smug expression and waved for you to greet your friends and family

meanwhile he clumsily prepares his present for you

he wrote you a song and it is so beautiful it made you tear up

once he finishes playing the song you run up to him and kiss him

"did you like it?"

"it is perfect, jask. this is all perfect. thank you"

"of course it's perfect i planed it."

"don't ruin the moment"

you end up doing flower crowns with everyone (except for Geralt. he just broods in the corner) , play lots of games, dance, sing along to Jaskier's songs, lay on the ground to look at the clouds, eat lots of food

overall it's just a really fun and memorable day

Matthias would really enjoy your calmer personality, and your close connection to nature and wilderness. That's comforting, that's familiar - that's home, and as much as he loathes most of what Fjerda has taught him, home is pretty much everything he needs in the hostile Ketterdam nights. Even if that means finding himself a new one.

Though he's not safe from the occasional witty comeback or sarcastic remark. Which he's not very good at spotting by the way, because Fjerdans are straight-to-the-point, especially in the army, but he gets the hang of it pretty quickly. It's always a delightful moment (of teasing from Jesper and clapping from you) when he makes a sarcastic joke.

You'd have a lot of bookstore and coffee shop dates, which was Matthias is very adamant about; the concept of courtship is extremely dear to him and he believes he has to woo you and he has to woo you right. Though a bookstore is a most unorthodox place for a date according to him, he's more focused on taking you to a place he's sure you'll like - and he never misses. You've discovered many little nooks in Ketterdam that way, and it's a nice change from the filthy bars of the Slat, because at times it feels like all of Kerch is just its crime scene.

And by the second coffee shop you've been at, he remembers your order and asks help from Inej to brew you coffee just how you like it when you're very tired after a mission. She gives him the "oh my god the boy is whipped WHIPPED" glare, but always obliges, because she finds the gesture very sweet. And so do you!

From the other room, you could hear your friends talking quietly and laughing, camped out on the floor in front of one of the fireplaces, murmuring from their sleeping bags and blankets draped on the couches, Fred’s laugh cutting through the chatter. In the other room, though, it was just you and George, swaying softly to the music warbling from the radio, your faces lit with the tiny lights strung around the room and the song crackling whenever another wintery gust swept by and more of the falling snow piled against the house.

There were no words exchanged between the two of you for the longest time, just the squeeze of your hand in his, warm to the touch, the sleeve of his sweater soft against your arm.

“I wish I could just freeze this, right here,” you whispered. “Just... this moment.”

“I suppose,” George said. “But then you’d miss out on mum’s big breakfast she’s got planned for tomorrow. You’re willing to give that up?”

You laughed. “For you?”

“Y/N, she’s got those little breakfast pastries! The ones with the raspberry filling? C’mon, you wouldn’t trade this for those?”

“Did she get the apple ones too?” you asked.

“I think so.”

“Hmm,” you said. “Well, maybe I’d have to reconsider then. If apple pastries are on the line.”

George laughed and it was one of the most magical sounds in the world, being able to be the one to make the other laugh for a change. The wind howled outside and you pressed closer to George, each minute pressed into an eternity, as long as you could make it last.
