If you don't mind another wip I recommend the graveyard shift (slow burn, coffee shop/firefighter/creature AU Dean being awkward with flirting, it's just really cute but also very interesting with amazeballs art)

think of it this way- teenage cis-boys know they're guys too but they still get really excited/proud when they start developing facial hair as well. Getting excited about your beard is definitely a normal guy thing.
