questions i'll be answering:
what’s your favourite greek myth? definitely the story of icarus ahaha i was just ranting to pearl about this earlier and i'm nearly constantly ranting about it to louise but i'll try to make my ranting slightly more coherent here. so, for one thing, i love how ambiguous his motives are. he's constantly interpreted as being the warning against hubris- he believed he could fly high and paid for this etc etc- but i happen to think it's a bit more complicated than that. mostly because i'm not sure how much of a motivator hubris is? like, i feel like if you believe you can fly high, only a challenge to that belief will make you actually do it, and icarus wasn't really challenged (he was warned, but i wouldn't say the two are the same). however, curiosity and fearlessness can make you do wonderful and horrible things, so those tend to be the reasons i put down for icarus. but i'm constantly quoting this oscar wilde poem, because i think it really sums up my icarus beliefs: never regret thy fall / o icarus of the fearless flight / because the only tragedy of them all / is never to feel the burning light.
when was the last time you painted your nails? which colour? i'm afraid it was a long time ago- i'm not very big on painting my nails because i always end up peeling it off. i have a bad habit of picking at my nails, and nail polish doesn't really help with that. it was about two months ago, and i had them hot pink with black Xs.
how long have you had your current icon? i'm not really sure. i think since the beginning of the summer? i was really into newsroom at the time, but i haven't watched it lately, which is a shame.
mermaids or princesses? oh god what a fabulous question damn you molly. um, i'm going to have to go with mermaids? because mermaids live in the ocean and i think the ocean is a fascinating place- and i just really want tales not about mermaids wanting to see the human world and doing stupid things to get there but about mermaids wanting to go deeper in the ocean and nearly getting killed for their efforts. the deep ocean is a scary place, yo. not to mention sometimes you get mermaid princesses and those are fantastic!!
what’s your favourite colour? i answered this a little while ago for an about the blogger meme, but i guess i can go again? in terms of wearing things i'm really a fan of shades of red- maroon being my favorite. and then, aesthetically, i love blue (all shades, really). i'm also quite a fan of spring bud green. but maroon's probably my favorite at the moment.
what colour are the sheets on your bed right now? dark grey.
what did you take/have you taken for gcses and/or a-levels or your country’s equivalent? (optional subjects that you chose to take lessons in/continue lessons in) ooh not a good question to ask me because not only am i american, my school's "progressive" or whatever, so we don't have AP classes with official standardized exams. i guess i can just say what classes i'm taking at the moment? intensive spanish iv, greek, intensive precalculus, intensive chemistry, humanities, (it's sort of a mixture of english, history, and ethics that my school does. it meets eight times a week) vocal jazz, chorus, acting, and a film major.
what was the last thing to pass your lips? i just had two glasses of water.
what was the last song/album you downloaded? illegally, no angels by bastille, legally, bad sun (moon version) by the bravery. i also just uploaded a bunch of cds (the smiths' 'singles, fleet foxes' 'fleet foxes,' and goldfrapp's 'seventh tree').
what’s your favourite book/tv show/movie/other that doesn’t have a fandom? ooh, good one. um, i really like the disenchantments by nina lacour- it's what made me want to write something about a road trip. in terms of tv shows, i really like the blue bloods and perception, which have impossibly tiny fandoms.
how many fandoms do you blog about that you didn’t blog about a year ago? approximately a thousand ahh i blog about far too many fandoms.
