backupandround replied to your post: Books I’ve Read So Far This Year
I don’t think I’ve ever found anyone else who’s read Eva Ibbotson’s YA historical romances, so seeing a couple on here is exciting! I’ve only read The Morning Gift a couple of times because it is my 2nd least fave of the five, but A Company of Swans is a go-to if I want swoon-worthy romance
I love her YA romances so much! I’d read some of her J fantasy and then my high school library happened to have editions of A Company of Swans and Madensky Square from the 80s, and I fell completely in love with A Company of Swans (I was a little young for Madensky Square) and was heartbroken when they got weeded from the collection of a summer (and subsequently delighted when all the books but Madensky Square got reissued).
Funnily, my recent reread of Madensky Square came about because I was in the free-things shed at my town dump, and those same old books from my high school library, stamps and stickers still on them, were just sitting there on a table.
@backupandround I agree I dont think its going to play in his favor (being the youngest I mean) but it does announce a new wave of politicians (hopefully)

The UK is the place for you, friend. Currently cold and overcast/rainy 24/7
I went to Wales in summer and experienced what I think was like the hottest week of the year at the time and it was still Reasonable. Hot but Reasonable. There were still clouds at intervals. I admire your weather very much.

It's 8 degrees where I am. Swap?
Yes. Absolutely. This is the correct temperature for January. Take the warm give me the cold.

I had to google fahrenheit to celsius and GOODNESS that is indeed warm for January (to me as someone from Scotland at least)
It is to me too, although it’s not super uncommon here in the desert, clearly Scotland has much more Reasonable weather.

dispatch from northern ohio: it is 53 degrees rn, somehow
See now that’s warm but like January thaw warm and not, like, “hello it is spring” warm.
Wait wait wait - après-midi can be masculine or feminine? Why has no one ever mentioned this to me before? I feel like by second year of uni someone should have brought this to my attention.
It can indeed! No one ever mentioned it to me either til I noticed it being used like that haha. Originally it was just supposed to be masculine I think (midi can’t be used in the feminine) but people do use it in the feminine too now.
For the anon who's worried about mixing up languages: I try and get myself into a language "zone", for lack of a better word. My timetable last term screwed me over and I had Italian and French oral classes back to back, so on my quick dash across campus I would listen to a bit of a song in French to switch over in my head. I also do the colour-coding thing, but with my notebooks rather than pens. Not sure if that's of any use, but I hope it might be?
Ooh I get what you mean about the ‘zone’ thing
same thing, in final year I had German oral directly after French oral and on my way to class I’d speak to myself in German hahah
It's really weird, when I consider it, that my most devout, Evangelical Christian friends, is
a. the biggest Deadpool fan I know, and b. the best out of all of us at Cards Against Humanity.
Huh.
