Film: These Birds Walk

These Birds Walk was by far my favorite film of the festival so far. The way they chose to show the children in their best and worst emotional and physical states really made it hit. The film makers had such trust built with the children which really allowed for this film to be all that it was. Powerful story that evokes so many emotions within the viewers.

If Only They Could Fly

"These Birds Walk" was a great film about runaway children in Pakistan and the organization and people that help them find their way. The focus on the children made the area and people much more tangible to me. Bassam Tariq, the films director, did a Q&A after the film and talked about his relationship with his subjects and the importance of telling a larger story through a smaller but more accessible narrative. That method is something that I love in a movie. And, like he said, it does make the story larger and more meaningful in the end.
