Hey y’all hey. So, lately I’ve been getting a lot messages regarding advice about how I can get further in my career. And while all this advice and all these ideas are very simple and effective, ask yourself, why hasn’t she executed it?
For those who may or may not know, I’ve been doing music like roughly 14 years now; but it’s only as of recently that I’ve really taken music seriously as a career. When I was younger I was told to focus on anything but music; education, work, family etc. I was signed briefly but the deal was an absolute horror story - and for another time. So, here’s like a blog post about my most FAQs about my music and career - and interview with my goddamn self, if you will.
- Why don’t you just do up your own studio?
This question is asked a whole heap. I understand the logic, believe me I do. But if I haven’t got £80 to go studio, what makes you think I have the funding to buy all the equipment and plug ins etc? I don’t know how to mix and master so I’d still have to pay my engineer to mix it all down regardless. In theory, I get the logic for real, but it’s honestly just not practical. I’d be stagnant with music because I’d be too busy trying to save up for a studio. Vicious circle, I’ve admitted defeat. Besides I pay for my studio not because of the equipment, but the absolute professionalism of my engineer Kof.
- You need to be more consistent! How come you haven’t released much music?
And it alllll comes down to that glorious word one more time - FUNDING. I am literally on my own in this industry. I fund everything myself. So that’s no management, no team, no nada. All these shows I’m doing up aren’t paid more time because I’m still trying to build my brand. So I’m covering my own travel, food, accommodation and everything as well as paying my bills - it’s really not as easy as it looks. I have songs written for days, but sometimes it’s literally the choice of; do I do this show? Or do I got studio? Or do I put money towards a visual? I can’t do all three at once, I genuinely have to think about it.
- Where are your visuals?!
Story of my life, funding. Visuals ain’t cheap and for some reason videographers see my Instagram following - which has fuck all to do with music - and just think I’m like some artist with funding or some shit. My following is actually from some stupid thirst trap video that went viral - my following literally happened overnight. And while I do like using this to my advantage and it works for some part of it, it’s not actually gaining me funding or anything around it. If anything it just makes people check out my page because they think I’m “someone”. I fully don’t let social media numbers gas me, the only numbers that could are the ones in my bank balance 😂.
- Do your research you can get funding!
Yep, I know. I’ve tried, I’m constantly applying. But honestly just because you apply doesn’t mean you’re gonna get it, you can’t rely on funding that you don’t have. I’ve tried crows funding, competitions, grants, loans... the list goes on. End of the day, it sounds cheesy AF, but the best way to get funding is for my followers to actually just support me by downloading/streaming my music. It’s so cheesy and cliche but the power is really in the audience hands. Artists are only as big as we make them.
When I tell y’all I work myself like a dog - I write like A&R are gonna show up at my door in the middle of the night and ask me what I’ve got.
And this story isn’t just mine, it’s a story honestly happening all over; this is why you have to support your friends and favourite artists!! I promise y’all stick with me, keep supporting and you’ll see for yourself. My work rate is actually mad!
Sextape 2 will be out ASAP! Date still TBC because, well this post kind of explains it. It’s hard to be consistent as an artist without the support. Talent, image and all that will only take you so far, it’s the support that makes the difference!
