WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME HOW INDEBTED MODERN FEMINISM IS TO KAREN BARAD I WOULD HAVE READ THIS BOOK WAY EARLIER

okay so i really dislike the "memorial to homosexuals persecuted under nazism" in berlin.

in general, i don't like many monuments/memorials because it is so so so hard to get rid of the patriotismus/nationalism... odor... that sticks to most of them.

but just. the berlin monument is so. condescending. imo. and a lot of that just comes with the territory of being a monument. (and being a monument in berlin specifically.) and from being built in 2008. and you have to give credit when credit is due with these things, because i do believe it did change some things for the better when in comes to memorial culture and queer memory and queer people. (well... gay people. gay men. maybe gay women. debatable. anyway...)

but i just. i think it suffers from 'thinks it's anti-authoritarian but it's not' and from 'a lot has changed since 2008' and from 'thinks it's for everyone but "everyone" generally means "people who are not queer"' and (of course) 'white men built it'.

THAT BEING SAID.

for some reason i cannot find the words to put this into my dissertation while still sounding professional? especially because the best argument against my argument is always "well, it's from 2008!". how do i even answer to that? but mostly i just.... find it really hard to put together an argument that isn't just... naming every pro aspect any academic has every said and then being like "ah well but!".

what do i even want to say? i have no idea!

oh and then there's the tiny problem of: i do love minimal art. like the original minimal art from the 1960s. give me some concrete boxes, or steel plates, or shiny plastic in primary colours all day. and this is in that tradition and... i do understand how it's...... kind of beautiful. like. i think it i could love it if it wasn't a dedicated monument but simply a work of public art.

how do i say "i hate this because it's boring and convoluted and so very normative, and i know it was important but it also feels like the popular mean girl of monuments in that you can't really not talk about but maybe it had its best time in high school and it's time we moved on". or something? maybe? i don't know. i'm writing this instead of writing my thesis.
