Tonight was one of those extremely rare occasions I cried at a TV show... I know, me! My mum and Dad call me a hard cow (lovingly!) because normally when everyone else is sobbing at a film, I’m just sitting there going “awh, that’s sad”! I cried at tonight’s episode of Call The Midwife... I cried because it made me think about kindness. Kindness was an apparent theme in tonight’s episode in general... but what really got to me was the kindness shown to a woman on her death bed. I think it’s because me and my family have so often been benefactors of kindness, from both loved ones and strangers, and that kindness, no matter how small it seems. is what kept us going during our darkest days, what kept us from shattering. We have also been the givers of kindness, and seen how much of a positive impact that kindness can have. Sometimes it’s the smallest acts of kindness that mean the most. Today was a Bad Day for me, full of all the trials I face when my Botox is due in my bladder; constant, agonising spasms, increased neuropathic and general pain, difficulty breathing, and sickness... but my day was made 209% better by so many little acts of kindness from my family and friends, my carers and nurses. Sending an inspirational photo, a nice text, or tagging me in a funny/puppy themed/unicorn themed Facebook post, cooking me a roast dinner, taking time to to fix my Platform 9 3/4 sign that fell down, bringing me tea, and from my Nurse and carer from today in particular, taking the time to talk to me. On Bad Days I am not good company. Often I’m withdrawn and silent, focusing my energy on breathing, and on battling with my pain and spasms. I don’t have the energy to expend on talking... when you do get me to talk, I’m negative, churlish, awkward... I’m a bitch, basically 😂 but both my nurse and carer took the time to engage with me, to get me to engage, and it really helped. So I just want to say that I’m really grateful for kindness. Remember; you can be anything you want to be in this world, but being kind is the best possible thing you can be. #bekind #always #thesmallestthings #makethebiggestdifference #blessed🙏 #thankyou
