Watching SEGA trip over their own feet is amusing in a very sad way, because these are the people making the big decisions for these characters and this franchise.

Next thing you know they'll be saying Team Dark were friends all along before forgetting what they just said and making them all fight against each other in the next game.

The way I see it is that both Infinite and Mephiles are different seals of the Seven Seals of the Sonic Apocalypse. And each day we get closer and closer to them. The first two seals to break were Tangle & whisper getting into a game and then Knuckles hat coming back.

And Rouge looking gorgeous again, but look.

We have gotten comic characters and alternate designs and Tikal (all of whom I love and am grateful to have) before one of the main bosses in Sonic Forces. In a game called Sonic Forces Speed Battle.
