Temp tracking in short is the practice of putting a temporary musical track over top of a film while it’s still in production. In theory, it lets the creative team work with the particular Feel they want for a scene, for the sonic landscape, etc.... in practice it makes every single FUCKING movie sound the same (or at least derivative) and it’s boring as shit.

Here’s a video about the scores in the MCU, which has a great bit on temp tracking (at about 5:48) but I agree with just about everything that is said about everything. Especially devastating is the brief discussion of how modern film music is ‘not supposed to be noticed.’ Like McFuck off.

Anyway what set me off this time is I’m always looking for new film scores because I love film scores (and vidya game scores etc) and so much of it sounds like Insert Generic Blockbuster Score Here when it could sound like....................Kung Fu Panda 3.

And it’s not an accident that I use a Hans Zimmer score as an example because this man is capable of Spirit and The Lion King and The Prince of Egypt and fucking Road to El Dorado and Gladiator but regularly churns out garbage like Man of Steel and Interstellar (which is boring and garbage, sorry) and I can’t decide whether it’s him phoning it in due to mass production or if directors and producers are shackling him to the Most Boring Sounds Ever.

(The other option is that most “Hans Zimmer” scores are in fact being ghostwritten by employees, of course.)

Dude Hans Zimmer is life but yeah interstellars music was boring as hell, really repetitive but I respect the hell out of the man for the Spirit soundtrack like holy shit

imho zimmer’s best work is his early animated film stuff e.g. Spirit, El Dorado, etc. Like The Road to El Dorado may be the first appearance of the (in)famous thematic..... thing that would develop into the Pirates of the Caribbean score. Listen to this.

Like honestly just skip to 1:55 and then 3:10 and then listen to the beginning of the first Pirates movie (and of course the Pirates theme).

Your boy is in good hands, esp if you went for all the extra stuff. I work as a vet assistant and we do neuters every day of the week, he might be a little sore when he goes home but he'll be back to himself in no time <333

oh i know i know and his vet is really phenomenal and they’re super cautious about recovery etc etc im just hand-wringing about mY SoN

yes good same high fives! because that's the game where you're like, i'm gonna go do this one little thing, get some iron to work on my achievement and then it's four hours later and you've dug out a whole cavern like WHAT'S GOING ON?! i can't imagine playing on pc just specifically because i would end up installing a mod and then would actually literally never do anything else.
