I loved the William Blake exhibition @tate, a favourite artist of mine since studying The Marriage of Heaven and Hell at uni. It was a fascinating journey through his life as a painter, printmaker and poet. I read all the information signs dutifully - but, to be honest, the details seemed to fly away like embers under the burn of his words and the fire of his monstrous and magnificent artwork.  The tension between the limitations of printing and his desire to capture the heights and depths his inner visions was palpable. He spent his life dedicated to the craft of printmaking - unearthing new ways to bring to light his dark and infernal imagination. Just as when I read Heaven and Hell, it was his rebelliousness that attracted me, his dogged refusal to ever give up on his vision no matter what life demanded. I highly recommend the Tate! If you’re ever visiting London it’s a must see! These were some of my favorites: 1) Whaam!, Roy Lichtenstein, 1963 – One of the best-known works of pop art and arguably Lichenstein’s most famous painting. The composition was originally taken from a DC comic book, All-American Men of War in February 1962. 2) Babel, Cildo Meireles, 2001 – a large-scale sculptural tower made with hundreds of second-hand analogue radios addresses information overload and failed communication. Every radio playing at once, the work echoes the biblical story of Babel. 3) Ambiguous Structure No.92, Jean-Pierre Yvaral, 1969 – an abstract painting in acrylic producing a 3D effect. 4) Nataraja, Bridget Riley, 1993 – Sever arrangements of vertical stripes with what she called an “Egyptian Palette.” 5) The British Library, Yinka Shonibare CBE, 2014 – 6,328 hardback books individually covered with names of 1st or 2nd generation British Immigrants.
