🌌 THE THING! 🌌
* Topps Finest Fantastic Four 65th Anniversary
Cut ham into triangles as always.
There was a fly smashed onto the previous page so I skipped it. It is flying forever. In white clouds. It is listening behind me as we speak.
I’ve always hated rhetorical questions. As a child I thought everything was a question and answer. You look stupid either way, if you address the obvious or don’t know the obvious.
It is best to nod and laugh regardless.
Halfway through breakfast the plate begins to resemble the remains of The Thing. Fluorescent red ketchup on rye on ham on eggs.
I’ve always hated shadow puppet artists. Like that creep that came to our 1st grade class, turning off the lights, transforming the classroom into our dark bedroom, turning on his beam of light and making us look at his hands and guess. What animal am I? Mouse! Fish! Ghost! He uncurls his animal: No, it's a dog.
Fly on the diner windowsill. Each flinch forward is a question, then another question, another.
Fly-like woman with silver hair pulled up takes her number and says well I guess I have the place all to myself, low chuckle, then takes a long, long pause looking for the right chair.
Lunch is over I guess…and breakfast.
Fly outside window. Each dart in a random direction is an answer. Little helicopters. Little bullets.
The dog running across the arctic tundra in The Thing looks like a dog but isn’t. It's an exact copy of a dog, but isn’t a dog. The Norwegian man fires answers from above in his helicopter that crack through blank sheets. He looks cruel but isn't.
The fly on the windowsill lives a life of questions. Lives in the human world amongst the silverlady and myself.
What animal am I? I ask contorting in dark in classroom in diner in bedroom.
Do I look like I was born yesterday? Says smeared thing with legs under pen.
Laugh, nod, shout: No, dog dog!!!
