please tell me about electricity in the zones! :0c
!!!!! OKAY
i think electricity in the fab four era was WAY rarer. you needed either a generator (and then fuel for it) or solar panels/wind turbines, both of which need a pretty stable building and a fair amount of upkeep. I think TCM’s, the radio shack, the diner, and the paradise motel (which is different from TCM’s in my canon idr if it is in comics canon) all have their own electricity sources, but the radio shack is the only one thats rlly consistent (as much as tommy hates to admit it). concerts get put on through a lot of community collaboration to get generators/turbines/etc set up for the night
this is mostly because BLI is focusing on like, keeping the city in order, manufacturing anti-killjoy propaganda, still attempting to get them under control. very much working within the city walls. It’s a well established company and the city has been in place for a while (maybe 20-25 years? i promise ill get my timeline in order someday) but the killjoys are Determined to bring it down in a meaningful and threatening way, so bli has to focus on keeping them away from the walls and can’t expand like they really want to.
by the comics era, electricity is both easier and harder to get in your building. BECAUSE bli has started to move out of the city and into the zones. after the fab four and most of the OG killjoys got killed/dracced/what have you and the people that are left have the more ultra v’s “killing is fun and we can just do that in our little crews” approach to being killjoys. NOT “can we work together to liberate the city” like the OG’s.
the comics have construction sites and billboards promising “something better is on the way” (or whatever). Even the nest becomes a planned improvement site after it gets blown up. and construction sites well, need power. and really, among the mess of cables and equipment that BLI leaves scattered around, who’s gonna notice one more cable? who’s gonna notice that it just disappears under the sand?
i think (bold) killjoys and zonerunners run cables from construction sites to their bases (if they dont have the resources for one of the other ways of getting power) and count the days until BLI notices and cuts the cable. The nest does this, thats how they power their game systems and lights, but it gets cut pretty regularly bc tbh nest ‘joys arent, uh, subtle.
Anyway, yeah, thanks @queercodedvampire and @ceinflower for also asking!!
