Hmmmmm I wonder which ship Sil is going to pick...how about “I can’t believe I got the first date, let alone a year.” for Gradaline

Edaline Cassidy had simple tastes, she thought. And this date was definitely one of them. She watched Grady, who was smiling and humming to himself as he gazed out over the coast, legs swinging from his perch at the cliff’s edge, and she knew she’d take more of this any day.

“Can you believe it’s been a year?” She asked when Grady looped an arm around her waist and ushered her to lean her head against his shoulder.

“Hmm,” Grady acknowledged, sounding content. “I really can’t. This was my nearly-impossible best case scenario daydream a year ago.”

Edaline laughed. “Was it, now.”

“Of course it was,” Grady said. “Remember how many times I had to ask you out before you said yes?”

“It was an unfortunate amount of times,” Edaline admitted. “I can’t believe you kept trying.”

“See?” Grady said, and Edaline could hear him smiling as he leaned his cheek against the top of her head. “I can’t believe I got the first date, let alone a year.”

“I admired your persistence,” Edaline murmured. “Also how strange the dates were.”

Grady laughed, and for a while they sat there in silence, watching the moon rise over the water.

“I have something for you,” Grady said.

Edaline leaned back, eyebrows raised. “I thought you said this was a ‘no gifts’ sort of thing.”

“It’s less a gift and more a practical thing,” Grady insisted, smiling at the somewhat accusatory look she was giving him. “Here, turn your head and close your eyes.”

Edaline pursed her lips for a moment before obeying.

Something cool and smooth laid across her collarbone, and she felt Grady’s calloused fingers brush a lock of hair off her neck. “Right, I think that’s secure. Okay.”

Edaline opened her eyes and blinked down at the simple-looking crystal necklace. “What’s this?”

She looked up to see Grady biting his lip, looking pointedly out at the water instead of at her. “It’s, um, a home crystal. For Havenfield.”

Edaline tried not to let her silly heart leap at this. “Oh?”

“You just, you come over quite often now,” Grady said, sounding a little embarrassed. “And this would make stopping by much easier, see. I probably would have given you one on that first date, but as I said, I can’t believe you actually said yes back then, and I didn’t want to risk scaring you off.”

Edaline looked back down at the crystal, twirling it between her thumb and forefinger. It felt like Grady was giving her a reason to call Havenfield home. Maybe she was okay with that. “You’re right. It’s rather practical. I love it.”

She bit back a grin when she felt Grady brush a soft kiss to her temple. “Happy one year?”

“Happy one year.”
