"Little one," the cold cutting gaze warms in an instant, her husky voice gentle. Chika may no longer be so little, but in her heart she'll forever be. No matter how old she'll grow and how much silver her own ebony tresses shall be adorned with.
a starter for @thewanderingchika !
It was ten minutes before closing time, and Rory hadn't had a single customer in over an hour. Wednesday nights were always quiet, though she hadn't yet figured out why exactly. Maybe a bar or restaurant in town had a trivia night or happy hour, attracting all of the normal regulars from the tiny coffee shop where she worked. In the past, she had thought about trying to attend one of those events to meet potential new friends, but had always chickened out in the end. The older she got, the harder it was to create new friendships, especially with her anxiety surrounding strangers, something she had been learning over the past few years. She wished a friend could just simply appear, one she knew she would get along with.
There weren't many people that Rory couldn't get along with, though. Despite her initial awkward shyness, she was always kind and considerate of others—and when she got to know someone, becoming comfortable with their presence, that budding friendship blossomed into something beautiful. But right now, as her phone sat silent on the counter without any notifications, she realized how far away that reality really was. Breathing out a deep sigh, Rory finished up sweeping the floor and stashed the broom away before beginning to clean off the counter behind the register.
Glancing up at the clock, she read the time as she mindlessly wiped off the surface. Only eight minutes now, she thought as she brought her attention back to the counter and—
The soft, jingling sound of the bell against the door rang out, which was the tell-tale sign of a person entering the shop. Rory brought her bright blue eyes upwards, already speaking words of greeting before her gaze even landed on the newcomer.
" Hi, welcome in. "

Older Chika dressed as early 2000s Britney because Bandit and Adrianna can’t reach me through a monitor screen
Things are.. kinda starting to calm down? People are still a bit tense and not a whole lot of talking happens, but it’s kinda starting to get back to normal. Or a state that tried to mimic normal. Lately the pup is still lingering, as always, around the grown-ups, but he’s quieter and more subtle of a presence. Mostly plays with a wooden puzzle toy or a small, pretty blunt knife he’s using to chip away the edges of furniture.
When he leaves he goes to the park, the bar, or wanders around the colorful shops and cafes on the main street, but his strolls are quick and he doesn’t interact much with people. He seems to be waiting or looking for someone that he can’t find.
It’s been quite a while and they still haven’t come back. His mind starts to wonder to all sorts of bad things. He tries to pick up their scent but all trails fade quickly. With each passing day he grows a little bit more sad, a little more segregated from those he loved to spend time with.
It’s come to a point when he had already spent four full days without talking to anyone. It just feels like there’s nothing worth talking about. On the inside he feels bad, but that’s already common knowledge. On the outside his expression is dull and tired. Last night he slept in the park, on a bench, hoping he’d meet up with her in the morning because it’s their favorite place to visit and play at. But she did not show up. It hurts and his eyes start to sting and hurt yet again.
...When did things even become so complicated?
