I love Faust!
My mood gets instantly better every time I see her on my dash <3
Awwwww <3 You have no idea how sweet it is to hear!
"Don't be stupid. Just get better and we'll see where things go from there." He rose to stand beside the bed, a hand resting on his hip as he watched her. Now he definitely felt bad because the idea of having ripped her out of her everyday, normal life like some kind of fantasy novel, downright depressed him. Sometimes, ignorance was bliss.
"Get some rest, we'll talk more tomorrow." The bed was not made and smelled strongly of Bandit. On the nightstand beside the bed, was an ashtray, a newspaper and some coins scattered about while the room itself was void of any decoration. In the very corner were weights lying around, a chair with some laundry stacked on top and his wadrobe that had clearly seen better days. A typical bachelor's bedroom. He hoped that she could even sleep in here.
"I'll be downstairs if you need anything." And since this was his bed, he decided to just spend the night in the pub. He needed a drink and the sofa downstairs was bigger than his.
By the time Bandit got her settled in his bed, Rory's eyes were already drooping shut. She didn't have the energy to resist his kindness, even if she felt like she didn't deserve it. He had already done so much for her and there was nothing she could offer him in return, so she simply nodded when he said he'd be downstairs. Despite being in a stranger's bed, the strong scent of his bedsheets brought her a sense of unexpected calm. They smelled like smoke and cologne, but underneath was the familiar scent of dog fur. It reminded her of her family dog from when she was a child, and within minutes she was out.
-----
By the time Rory woke up the next day, the sun was already high in the sky. She groaned as she rolled over, almost on top of Ollieâthen all at once everything from the day before came back to her like a slap in the face. She quickly sat up with a light gasp, hands already frantically searching for her phone somewhere in the sheets. The sudden movement made the raven squawk in annoyance and within seconds he was making a racket. Rory ignored him, finally finding her phone and picking it up with slightly trembling fingers. She had to be at work today at 6am sharp orâ
It was half past one in the afternoon.
For a moment she simply stared at the digital clock on her phone like she couldn't believe what she was seeing. And then, as if some unseen being in the universe was mocking her, Rory's phone buzzed with a text message alert. Swiping it open, she read the text she already knew was comingâthis was the last straw and she had been fired from her job at the coffee shop. It had been the only semblance of stability she had left.
That text, combined with yesterday's revelation and accompanying stress, made her burst out crying.
The upcoming pour will drench him in a few minutes. Manny didn't care enough to rush to his apartment. These knee aches were already irritating, there was no need to make them worse. He yawned with hand near his mouth, widening his eyes from the woman bumping him as he rounded a corner.
He almost tumbled down but was prompt back up with the support of his knee. However, it gave up completely as he lied there on his back with a face of disbelief. It seems his knee is hurting quite a bit there.
"Well good news for you there, I'm no longer a human but simply a broken man with a no longer functioning leg." He's not injured in the slightest. If anything, he's too lazy to get up after his knee is no longer hurting. "I'm joking-" Finally, the stranger forced himself to stand back up.
"Watch where you're going. I could've had a broken knee there." He displayed his annoyance, but surprisingly, didn't yell nor raise his voice at her.
The annoyance in his voice was very clear, enough to make Rory begin to try and collect her things fasterâwhich in turn caused most of the stuff she tried to grab to fall back onto the sidewalk. She tried to find his joke about not being human funny, but she was so focused on trying to just get out of his way that she didn't laugh; though under normal circumstances it would have made her giggle because it was exactly the kind of joke she would have thought funny.
â I'm so, so sorry. â Looking up at him as she packed up the rest of her things, her eyes filled with concern and swirling anxiety when he mentioned breaking a knee. â You're not... hurt, are you? IâI can call for help if you are. â With monument effort, Rory stood back up with her bags, items already nearly spilling out the sides. â I... I can try to make it up to you. I don't know how, but... â
She trailed off, almost like she was waiting for the moment when he would begin yelling at her.
@mannequinentity
If she was being honest, Rory had absolutely no idea what she was doing with all of this stuff. Dangling from both of her arms were canvas bags nearly overflowing with what looked like a mixture of both dried and live plants. Some were flowers while others looked and smelled like fresh herbs. It was a good thing she lived in New York Cityâanywhere else she would have gotten weird stares and people wondering what the hell she was doing. Here, no one paid attention to her and that suited her just fine.
It was cooler now that it was nearly the end of October, and her breath came out in wispy clouds as she lugged her bags down the busy sidewalk. Luckily she wasn't far from her apartment now, but with rain on the horizon she quickened her step so she didn't get caught in the incoming downpour. She rounded the next corner quickly, clearly very eager to be off the streetâand of course as she did, Rory ran right smack into a person coming straight towards her. The short woman let out a startled sound as she tumbled backward, bags and all, the contents of them spilling out onto the sidewalk along with her.
â Owwâ! â Rory glanced up through stray strands of frizzy brown hair that partially covered her face, her pale blue eyes tentatively peaking through. As soon as she saw a man standing there, her eyes went wide and she frantically began grabbing her things. â I'm so, so sorry! I... I didn't mean to run into you, I wasn't watching where I was going andâI'm just so sorry. â
Which Faust are you today?

She'd lifted her gaze towards the sound of the windchime just in time to come face-to-face with the raven, right before it landed on her table. Practically stumbling in right after came who she assumed was the bird's owner, and then Bandit right behind her. So Mimi's fear was now confirmed. Here she was.
" Are you SURE...? Because this was just practice for full-blown necromancy. " She teased the new bird, resting her elbow on the table and cheek in her palm, amber eyes raising towards the girl with an annoyed frown. She hated being disturbed when she was working, especially when she knew that Bandit would disapprove. She knew that Bandit wouldn't insult her with questions of morality, but she still preferred her privacy.
" I didn't think we'd have to start from absolute zero, but I guess your first task will be learning to control your familiar. You own it, so it shouldn't be flying off and yapping to whoever it wants, " she spoke about the raven as if it was just a cluster of magic - which familiars were, in Mimi's experience. They were just another handy tool.
The elf stood, picking the dead flower up and tossing it into a jar nearby - she'd find a use for it, even dead. The windchime in the main shop front sounded again and a child's uncertain voice filled the air, followed by the low rumbling sound of a man's in response. Mimi rose her hand elegantly as if catching a breeze in her palm, and the revived blackbird instinctively flitted up and into her hold. Mimi stepped past Rory and Bandit to offer the bird back to its owner, who let out a series of excited giggles and kissing sounds as she snuggled her beloved pet's head. A simple nod was exchanged between Mimi and the father figure, before the customers left.
Right after they stepped outside, Mimi rose her hand as she turned back to the private room - magic force latched the front door shut and closed the net curtains.
" So .. " she continued where she left off, folding her arms and standing beside Bandit, looking up at him in thought, compiling a list of demands she'd have for him later in exchange for this whole thing.
" What can you actually DO, Rory... ? I need to know how you discovered your powers and what you've done with them since. " Her amber gaze met the other woman's steadily.
At some point Rory knew she was actually going to have to talk to Mimi and stop hiding behind Bandit. The werewolfâshe still couldn't believe they were actually realâhad not only saved her life, but tended to her when she was hurt, let her stay in his apartment, and even brought her to one of his friends who could help with her newfound powers. The least she could do was swallow her nerves and gather the courage to try something new. Taking a deep breath, the new witch stepped carefully around Bandit and slowly approached Mimi at her desk.
â I'm sorry. Ollie, heâhe's just trying to help. But it's... really nice to meet you, Mimi, â Rory said meekly, gathering up the raven into her arms to keep him off the desk. â We ummâwell, I was only able to start understanding Ollie the other day. He had been following me around town for awhile before Iâwell, I... â Why was this so hard for her to say? â ...I realized I was a... witch. â The word witch made her cringe a little, like it physically hurt her to say. She shifted awkwardly on her feet before glancing back at Bandit like he somehow had answers she was looking for before the windchime rang out again.
Rory fully turned towards the door, still holding Ollie safely in her arms. Her eyes widened when she saw the brief exchange between Mimi and the boy, and how his eyes lit up when his beloved living pet bird was handed back over. Was that... something she could do as a witch? Help people get back things that they loved and lost and bring them happiness? Necromancy or not, it seemed like something that could be done for the good of others.
â That will be you someday, Aurora. You've got a lot of power locked up in there just waiting to be let out. It'll just take practice, but you'll get there. â The raven nodded sagely as Mimi walked back over before addressing Rory directly. The new witch suddenly looked very shy with all eyes on her.
â Ummâ! â She squeaked, trying not to squeeze Ollie too hard. â I... I don't know. A few days ago, a chimera attacked me in the city and Banditâhe came to help me and then somehow I activated my powers. I don't know how... that's just what Bandit said I did. â Rory began petting Ollie's head to stave off some of her nerves before sending another pleading glance in the wolf's direction. â I don't know what I can do yet. But I get these, ummâthese weird feelings sometimes. Like I can feel the world is alive around me. I've... I've had them all my life but never paid them much mind until now. Is that... is that magic? â

Do you like Werewolves? Did you ever want to pet, annoy or fight a werewolf? You just found the bad role model wolf dad, nobody asked for. He swears a lot, has a drinking problem and eats all the food you canât finish. Donât worry though, if you get on his good side he will be very protective and you can abuse him as a blanket - just watch out for the teeth. Â

Bandit being a good wolf dad
When she got up, Bandit rose an eyebrow, watching her. He did notice that there was something off about the way she moved. She looked quite pale too but he had assumed, that was because of the initial shock. Before the old wolf could even say something however, he saw her tumble. So Bandit immediately jumped up to reach out for her.
" Woah, woah, hey! Hang on! "
His hand came to grab her arm, his other hand placed on her back to help her stand straight. For a moment he feared she would fall and hit her head.
" Seems like there is a small amount of poison after all. You should sleep through it, no way you're able to walk home like that. "
He didn't bother to ask as he picked her up in his arms, feeling kinda responsible for this. Still, he should probably contact a friend about the rest of this whole issue. No matter how random this encounter was, he was kind of responsible for what happened to her life as well.
As soon as he grabbed her arm to steady her, Rory immediately leaned against him for support, not that she really had a choice at that moment. The world around her was now blurry and spinning, so much so that she wasn't even sure she could stand on her own anymore.
She didn't resist when Bandit moved to pick her up and surprisingly, neither did Ollie. As the wolf carried her over to the bed, the raven flapped along beside him, eyes never leaving his witch. The rapid beating of his obsidian wings was telltale sign enough that he was worried.
When she lay comfortably on the bed, Rory shifted slightly and opened her eyes halfway. Though her breath was still a bit ragged, it was clear that lying down was already helping. â Bandit...? â she whispered, eyebrows knit over her blue eyes. â I'm sorry to be... such a bother. I... I can be gone in the morning. â
The deep lavender-coloured beads that hung on the arch between the main shop front and the owner's personal corner trembled with energy as if a breeze was blowing through the small building. On the round table in this room sat a black dahlia flower, deep crimson petals circling the pistil perfectly and beautifully. Beside the flower lay a small blackbird, dead, though not a trace of blood on its still-warm body. Mi'yuun was kneeling by the low-sitting table, amber eyes gaining a glossy hue as her palms hovered above her objects of choice. A few focused, commanding whispers of a long-forgotten language passed her lips, the life physically and visibly draining from the flower.. as the bird's body twitched, wings shuddering. After a few moments, the dahlia lay withered, and the bird stood, shook its head out, and began to peck underneath one of its wings. Mimi took a deep breath, satisfied with her success. A child's pet bird... Hardly worth the time of day, under normal circumstances.. but she owed the child's father a favour.
Her index finger smoothed over the blackbird's velvet head, the elf making a popping sound through her teeth.
" Waste of a lovely flower... Try not to die again. I don't think your owner can afford me. "

Ever since Ollie gained the ability to speak with his witch, the familiar took nearly every opportunity to do just that. As the motley crew of three made their way through town, the obsidian raven lectured Rory about the things she might learn as she began her journey as a newly awakened witch. Though the young woman was clearly listening, her small hand held tightly to her opposite forearm, something she did when she was feeling particularly anxious. It annoyed him that she was sticking so close to Bandit's sideâyeah, sure, the big bad wolf saved her one time, so what?âso he landed on her head to perch on top of her long, wavy brown locks.
â Like I said, Aurora, 'yer gonna be just fine. â Ollie stated matter-of-factly, sneaking in a piercing stare at Bandit as a warning to not get so close to his witch. Of course, the raven ignored the part where it had been Rory's choice to walk right up against Bandit's side because she was so nervousâblaming the old wolf was way easier. â Just listen to what this person has to say and you'll be golden. Maybe you'll even end up as their apprentice, who knows. I bet Bandit can pull some strings. â
Rory apprenhensively glance up at Bandit when Ollie said that, worried that her familiarâthat was still so weird to sayâwas going to annoy the man enough that he would leave. She constantly bounced back and forth between desperately wanting Bandit's help because she was way out of her depth, and not wanting to put so much burden on this person she just recently met. â I'm... I'm sure Bandit is doing all he can for me, Ollie. So... please be nice, okay? â
They rounded the corner then, coming upon a small shop nestled within the nearby buildings. Bandit seemed to know where he was going so she followed him, Ollie still perched on her head. When they stepped inside and a wind chime rang out, Rory suddenly felt that same strange yet familiar feeling she had experienced during her awakening some days pastâshe was coming to realize that feeling was magic, whatever magic really was. She curiously glanced around and when her gaze landed on a woman in the low-lit back room shrouded by a beaded curtain, Rory's bright blue eyes widened at what she saw taking place.
Before she could say anything, Ollie launched himself off her head and flew straight for the woman. Rory gasped, accidentally knocking herself into Bandit as she tried to reach out to catch the raven before he did something rash. â O-Ollie, waitâ! â
But instead of attacking the woman like the young witch expected, the raven simply landed on the desk, chirping cheerfully at the newly reborn bird. Rory relaxed then, mumbling a sheepish apology to Bandit for running into him just as Ollie's beady eyes found Mimi. Motioning with a wing to the lanky, anxious looking woman still purposefully half-hidden behind the towering man, Ollie said, â That was amazin'. I want 'ya to teach my Rory how to do what you just did. â
